Cross-stitch query

    Does anyone here do cross-stitching?

I have just bought the thread for 2 patterns I found in a magazine. I was given some Aida as a present but it doesn't seem to be the same count as is needed in the pattern.

The Aida is 11 count but the design requires 14 count.

Does anyone know what would happen if I just used the 11 count aida anyway?

Would it ruin the pattern and be a waste of thread?

11 count means there is 11 stitches to every inch of aida. If you use it instead of 14c the stitches and thus the design will be bigger.

    to work out the size

count how many sqaures are the length and width of the printed pattern
divide these by the aida count
    answer is finished design.

make sure your 11c is large enough. If in doubt or you want a smaller stitch buy some 14c

    best of luck

Thanks so much for the reply!

I've tried it out and they look pretty good so far on 11count! The white aida shows through a bit behind black thread but not to worry!

    :)
