One quote has roughly 986 on parts with 24 hrs of labour Huh ?:eek: two working days to fix a door?:eek::eek: Srsly?

Was the quote from the dealer supply and fit? sounds about right for a dealer if so. Do you have a replacement door or is one needed?

Thanks Hal1 for replying ...Yeah one quote was from a ford dealer , other was from a local garage..both within a hundred euro or so.

I dont have the door so the quote is for a new door and fitting , the car itself is probably worth 5 grand , its a tough one...for a seemingly small ding its a whole heap of cash.

You could find a door on partfinder.ie handy enough. If it was me I would be fitting it myself its not a difficult job.

My 2000 Astra was broken into two months ago, they bent the door back which meant it was destroyed. I got a replacement door and glass from a scrap yard for €140. Myself and my girlfriends father managed to fit it, but it took us a full day to do it.

It's not a simple task either, when you get the door from the scrap yard you get the metal and not much else. We had to strip everything off the old door and put it on the new one. Mostly this was ok but the electric windows were very difficult. There were 8 or 9 rivets that connect the door and the arms of the window system. These were difficult to line up and then put in.

Also getting the pins out was difficult, and I'd recommend having two people to lift the door in place as you have to line it up exactly or it won't fit in.

If you think you're up to the task you could save 800 quid, but it's not simple. Also the Ford garage might be getting you a brand new door and respraying the car. The door I got matched my car perfectly so there was no need to spray it.

I got the door from http://www.summerhillspares.ie/. They have an online form where you fill in the part you want, they got back to me in a couple of hours to say they had it. If you wanted the door fully assembled you'd probably pay more but you might get a resonable deal if they hadn't stripped it already.

    Good luck!
