all credit cards are liable for the tax, unless you're talking about a loyalty card in which case it wouldn't be possible to charge afaik

so the store card is a credit card by any other name?

just did a google on it and it looks like it's not worth the saving on your spend - too much hassle with GE to be worth taking one out...........Mods, this thread can be closed at your leisure!

they don't have tax but they do have a 30% interest rate, ridiculous charges for late payment and do their best to make you pay for purchases with the card so that their overpriced goods reap them an even bigger profit.

Edit: and yes applicable for gov't duty as is a credit card and not a loyalty card or the likes.

Reading the Debenhams website it looks like you have a choice between going for a credit card and a store card.

I'm presuming Government tax on the credit card and no Government tax on the store card.

They quote 19.9APR for both cards.

I have the Debenhams STORE card and can confirm that there is no government stamp duty on it. You have to basically pay the bill in full though because the interest is ridiculous on it. For this reason, I hardly ever use it.
