    Hi folks,

I have an ould 99 Punto in the garage.
Main problems are a dead battery and the head gasket is gone.
Anyone know how much that would cost to get get taken to a garage and fixed for?
Trying to work out whether to keep the yoke or just get rid of.

get rid, you're looking around 500 quid to get all that done. buy something decent like a Starlet for 1k and be done with it.

Not worth fixing IMO but its worth a small fortune on a scrappage deal so long as it qualifies.

You'd spend the price of a half decent NCT'd banger from dondeal.ie on fixing that car so I wouldnt bother.

    Yeah thats what I thought.
Just wanted to hear it from the motor boards :)
Been sitting there for a year doing nothing, so time to get some space back...

Maybe a stupid question but would a dealer take it even on a scrappage scheme? Might be worth towing it around some dealers

Well, if you like the car, then fix it, if not, then get rid of it. Stick it on eBay or Donedeal, someone may want it for parts.

I paid nearly €700 on repairs to my '95 Escort a few months back (I crashed it into a wall :o). Then again, I like the car.

    Aye it has that.

I just had a look at the scrappage scheme rules though.
It hasn't got an NCT or been insured for the past year.
Do some dealers 'look past' that?

IMO it depends on what condition the rest of the car is in. A head gasket and battery should cost you no more then €350-400 including parts etc but if the rest of the car is in bits then there isn't any real point.
