Man denies leak of Navy ship information
    Tuesday, 13 April 2010 12:46

A member of the Irish Naval Service has gone on trial at a military court martial in Dublin on charges of disclosing information about State ships at sea.

Able Seaman Eoin Gray, who is attached to the LÉ Orla, is also charged with conspiracy to aid people unknown to import cocaine between the 4 and 15 December 2008.

He is also charged with having cocaine in his possession and with having counterfeit hair straighteners.

He has pleaded not guilty to all five charges.

Legal argument dominated this morning's proceedings and judge Colonel Anthony McCourt has adjourned the hearing until this afternoon.

Ok I get the whole aiding people and cocaine but counterfeit hair straighteners, like did he have only one for personal use or was he selling them ? :pac:

The judge should show some leniency since he was obviously trying to straighten himself out.

Who would have thought that counterfeit hair needed straightening?

Very interesting to know that members of the defence forces are importing drugs. Can we infer anything about the quantities involved from the fact that it's a court martial?

I don't really care about the drugs to be honest but disclosing information about the ships sounds a bit like treason.

also, according to the new ross standard:
Gray faces an extra charge of being in possession of eight counterfeit hair straighteners at Lower Glanmire Road, Cork, on December 15 2008.

Eight? WTF? That's a ridiculous thing to charge someone for, I didn't know it was illegal to possess electronics. Surely the drugs and the treason are enough.

Perhaps that GHD crowd got wind of it and decided to pursue the matter? :)

I think it's more the counterfeit part they worry about.

Yeah, I guess my issue is more philosophical. I didn't even know owning a counterfeit item was illegal as opposed to selling or producing it. My HTC phone violates several apple patents, am I going to be arrested?

I just looked this up in the online Margo's catalogue on my iFoam and it's definitely GHG.

The fact of the matter is that you never thought of it... ya see it's people like him that see gaps in markets... and at a time when the economy is weak....

The smugglers are obviously diversifying given the collapse in the cocaine market, caused by the shrinking economy/headshops.
These hair straighteners were obviously some sample product.
I'd heard of a couple of underground hair-straightening parties in the capital.
Only a matter of time before these lowlifes have the country awash with this stuff.

Never mind the cocaine possession/dealing and giving drug lords intel on ship movements in an effort to traffic drugs into the country

    But Counterfeit Hair straighteners!
    He's f***ed now
That will get you 5-10 years at least

Down is West Cork and places like that, they'll be searching for hair straighteners on the beaches, handy money to be made, the average guard won't know its illegal:rolleyes:
