    Hi guys,

I would really appreciate some recommendations / advice on entering a few events this summer. I am new to road biking and was hoping to enter the Ring of Kerry / Wicklow 100, however, as it happens holidays and a friends wedding clash with both of the dates. I am really keen to keep training away for other similar events and would love some recommendations.

Any other advice / tips on training would also be much appreciated.

    Thanks, Katie

The Sean Kelly Tour is well worth doing. Great route with a lot of good climbs and very well organised.

But if they start and finish the same way as last year watch out for the extremely slippery drain/trench thingy running along the middle of the road. It would be a shame to ruin a good day out by crashing in either the first or last 100 metres, as several people did last year.

seems strange that there is not a website set up with all this kind of information for people , and why dont cycling ireland have this stuff on their site? it would take about 1-2hrs work :( and be an easily accessible one stop shop for these leisure events, there cant be that many? - 15-20??

Tour de Burden and EtapeHibernia both take place in the Burren. Stunning setting and some great places to stay after like Lahinch, Doolin, Liscannor, Ballyvaughan in order to make a night of it after the event.

Loads of different events on, you won't be short of ones to choose. There is a section on the Cycling Ireland website the document is called Master Calendar and if you click the Leisure tab you will see the list.

The big other ones would be the An Post Series, Sligo, Clare, Meath, Waterford and Cork and as well as the two already mentioned. Also there is a Sky sponsored event in Clare in August that would be good.

EtapeHibernia is the Sky event as said by ROK ON

Katie_H - have a look at this website it seems to list alot of the long distance cycles going on around Irl over the summer months. http://www.cyclosport.org/ievents2009.aspx?cid=7

Am not sure of how accurate the site is in relation to events listed.
On the 10th of May there is the An Post Tour of Sligo http://www.irishcycling.com/publish/exec/view.cgi?archive=11&num=3787

On the 15th May there is the Mt Leinster challenge, West Cork 100 and 200 (not listed on that website) is on 20th of June http://www.westcork200.com/which which you could try as well

    Happy cycling :-)

Did the Tour of Kildare last year and would recommend it. Good route, awesome food stop (a big line of tables covered in fruit, bars, crisps, cake and juice if I remember right), big crowd, and burgers at the end. Can't ask for more.

They actually have all the leisure events on a Google Calendar. Don't know if I should be telling you this mind; it is all very much on a need to know basis. Top secret.

    Hey guys!

Thanks a million for all the info, plenty of food for thought there.

Will have a proper look at the calendar later on after work, hopefully, there will be some dates that suit and something in my ability range.

    K

I think you're going to have to re-consider you priorities here. Now, while I can understand that you can't put off your holidays, could your friend not re-schedule? ;)

You're dead right, how very selfish of him! I will ask him to re-schedule accordingly and now that I know what is on this summer, I can provide all dates that I will not be available :D
