    Hi Folks,
I have worked as a contractor for the last 4 years so therefore I was classified as self employed. Recently I returned to fulltime education which will take 4 years. Its a PHD so I it will be 12 months a year full time and as such I will be technically unemployed for the next 4 years.
Am I entitled to claim any of my previous 4 years tax back using the P50 form or does my self employed status negate this, any help would be greatly appreciated

If you are classified as self employed then you should be filing a return for every year. P50 cannot be used in this case. Each year is dealt with on an individual basis so been in college for the next four years will have no affect on your payment of tax for the previous four years.
