Stair Runner Fitting

Hope someone can give me some advice.
I had my runner fitted to my cut string stairs on Saturday and the fitter used a method called the Waterfall effect. I could not be here during the fitting and to be honest did not have a clue what he was talking about but did tell him I wanted the carpet fitted tightly to each step. Needless to say when my husband rang to tell me the job was done but was not sure of the finish I was a bit worried.
Can anyone tell me what the industry standard is for fitting a runner to a cut string stairs? I am really unhappy with the finish and need to get my info together before I go back and tell him I want it refitted.

As far as i know the waterfall effect is the most common (and easiest)way of fitting a stair runner....if you asked for the runner to be tucked under each step then thats upholstered type (more difficult).....he won't be able to refit the runner as it will be shorter if changed.......

    Hiya Del88,
Do you think I would have an argument for the carpet to be replaced as the style of fitting was never discussed and I asked for a tight fit to the stairs on the day?? Its split into 2 runs so one length could be reused.
