I really love videocopilot.net, its my favourite site by far, it has taught me so much about digital animation. Im trained in classical animation and never really ventured into digital as I felt there was just too many programmes and too much to learn, plus the classical took up so much of my time in College.

Anyway, there is a tutorail on videocopilot.net called "Medical Zoom -Part 2" where he uses a Trapcode plug-in. I dont have this, just the presets that came with After Effects CS4 and I was hoping that maybe someone here could help me achieve the same effect as the Trapcode plug-in?

    Great site alright.

I don't know how you'd achieve it without the plug-in but you can download a demo of it from here:

    http://www.redgiantsoftware.com/product-downloads/

It will render with a watermark but at least you'll be able to complete the tutorial

Ahhhh excellent, thanks for that!! Yeah all I want to do is complete the tutorial to see how it goes, from reading alot of forums and sites, Trapcode Particular seems to be very popular and can achieve some amazing effects so might buy the code to unlock it.

    Cheers dude, thanks for that!

P.S. http://ae.tutsplus.com/ is another site which i cant get enough of! so much to learn!

Started learning After Effects myself recently. Some good resources are:

    http://greyscalegorilla.com/blog/
is run by Nick Campbell. Good After Effects tutorials there too. He's also started doing some Cinema 4D stuff too which looks cool. His tutorials are nice and clear to follow.

    http://motionographer.com/
posts loads of great motion graphics videos

    and

    http://www.mograph.net/
    is a popular message board.

Can't think of any more off the top of my head.

Excellent site - will download the software. How hard would it be for a novice to pick this up I wonder?

if you know any of the more recent adobe products, say cs2 onwards it should be easy enough for you to pick up. Adobe programmes look very similar so if u know one u pretty much know the basis of all.

Plus the guy is excellent, he goes through everything and its a great way to learn a programme. Ive given up forking over the guts of €10 a month for Computer Arts magazine cos the stuff this guys teaches is far better and for free. I take notes too and write everything down step-by-step coz i have o2 dongle thingy broadband here in leitrim so it takes hours just to watch one video clip for me so easier to reference notes than to have to watch again.

Best of luck with the After Effects!
