it should be available to you from Mullaghanish, i get it from there in Bandon even though our own relay isn't doing dtt yet

nope, have a mpeg4 digital reciever, 0% signal intensitiy and quality. nothing happening in clonakilty by the looks of things, would like some encouraging news bout dtt in the area, analogue signal is very poor here and would like a decent picture for a change.

you sure you have your uhf pointing at mullaghanish? I would use the bandon relay normally but stuck a new uhf in attic with booster pointing at mullaghanish and got full signal on DTT

Thats probably whats wrong here for the op.
He needs a chimney mounted group A aerial probably with an amp and power supply unit pointed at Mullaghanish.

clon is a real black spot for mullaganish its hard enough to recieve fm radio from mullag there. unless ur west of town id say you will have to wait for the local mast to go live

yeah vince i think ur right, wrong place in town for recieving. any idea as to when these relay stations will be up and running anybody? this town badly needs it up and running asap, picture quality is shocking here.

    welcome to boards

you should have good quality analogue RTE1,2,Tg4 as there is a transposer for your town.

Get a local TV aerial installer or other person in the know to check your aerial?

Your aerial might be just wrong 'group' /wrong direction/ wrong polarisation/ installed in the wrong place/ bad connection etc etc
or are you using a VHF Band III aerial to get UHF? (as the transposer there and in some other towns used to be VHF for RTE)

If I remember correctly, DTT from Mullaghanish is on 666 MHz.

no, 666MHz (ch 45) is Spur Hill, which wouldn't get to clonakilty.

474MHz (Ch 21) is Mullaghanish DTT

The OP does not say if he can get TV3 analogue ? The only possible source of that is Mullaghanish (ch 27) in that area. Reception of that would be a good indication if Mullaghanish DTT would work.

its ch21. I had awful trouble getting tv3 analog in my house and an aerial in the attic with full boost might get you a half good pic but getting full bars for dtt on z81 panasonic

no, not getting tv3 through analogue. not even a flicker.

Tried out my Elgato TV Hybrid 12 miles west of Clon in Glandore and got perfect reception on DTT using the roof mounted aerial at home. Had to retune from the city settings but got the 5 channels fine.

Anyone got any idea if work is being done on the local transmitters, clonakilty in particular? Mullagh is a non runner for me, relying 100% on local transmitter which is poor enough on analogue. i have emailed rtenl with this question, no reply in 5 days.....hope they're all working on the transmitters:rolleyes:

Can confirm that DTT is currently being broadcast in Clonakilty.

What channel (frequency) is it being tuned in on?

    Just checked the frequency (474MHz)
My indoor aerial is pointed at Clonakilty Mast which is at 90Deg to Mulaghanish.
I do not have line-of-sight to Mullaghanish as I am in a deep valley.
Surely I'm not picking up Mullaghanish?

If clonakilty is a relay of mullaghanish, I expect it's Mullaghanish you're picking up. To rebroadcast on the same channel as the received signal would be crazy unless you had two masts on the Clonakilty site separated well apart for the transmit and receive masts, and you used opposite polarity and other types of precautions. E.g. like what Arquiva use for Killowen Mountain in Co. Down. I highly doubt Clonakilty would be operating in a SFN either.

I just checked my documents from back when the commercial multiplex bid applications were online. It uses Ch. 34 as the test frequency for mapping coverage in Clonakilty. So I assume that is part of the allocation but I don't know the other 3 channels allocated and RTE could launch on any one of these.

Either way, it's extremely likely that you're picking up Mullaghanish on your aerial. Most yagi aerials have side lobes that allow some sort of reception at different angles relative to what it's pointing at.

No, what I meant was that Ch. 21 is being received but a document I have mentions Ch. 34 as one of the allocations for Clonakilty. So that means Ch. 21 is probably not allocated along with ch. 34. I cannot find the full allocation for Clonakilty to confirm unfortunately.

As I posted recently in reply to pool10 "Clonakilty isn't on the list of sites to be available for the soft launch by Oct according to a written reply from the Minister in the Dáil recently".

You're probably picking up Mullaghanish, there's a new taller mast under construction there and according to More Music recently, new UHF antennas have been installed also some posters here have reported receiving DTT from Mullaghanish further from the transmitter possibily due to higher power tests from the new mast.

Regarding the frequency allocations at Clonakilty, none appear to be in the public domain, it wasn't allocated any at RRC-06 as the cut off there for allocations was 250W and currently Clonakilty transmits analogue at 200W. The DTT allocation should be in Group B as the current analogue channels are there.

I pick up Woodcock Hill side on to my Mullaghanish aerial so that's probably what's happening with yours.

I tried out my USB tuner (Happauge) on Clonakilty on Saturday (22/1/2011) and got good quality signal on 690000 khz (ch 48 I believe). Got the 17 channels (7 TV, 10 radio).
I only had a stick antenna, mag mounted to the roof of the car - so my guess is that the transmission is vertically polarised, and again a guess that it's coming from west of Clon - I was in Desert at the time and it seemed best on the s.w. side of the house.
