    Hey,

Other than some stuff I did a good few years back, I'm new to all this music production thing. From a previous thread I started ages back, Reaper was recommended as a good, cheap program that might be accessible to the novice. After messing around with it last night, I finally figured out how to import wav files (not sure if it accepts other formats). My problem now is that I'm looking for sites that provide free files (I'm trying to keep costs down - this is just for personal enjoyment). I've found a few (for example, http://www.looperman.com/royalty_free_loops_site_map.php) but perhaps there are some recommendations out there?

    Cheers.

    http://www.freesound.org/ and http://www.ccmixter.org/

You have to sign up but they are fine I haven't heard from them ever and I get stuff from there all the time. You are also requested to upload any recordings or samples you may feel are useful to anyone else, it's a good community.

Don't forget to check out the freesound forum and articles.

As far as I know Reaper will play other file types, you could however download Audacity which will convert most file types for you.
