    Hi,

I can't connect to the internet. Whenever I try to connect my Macbook self-assigns an IP of 169.254.150.80. I've tried renewing DHCP lease but it keeps reverting to the 169.254 self-assigned IP. It's definitely not a problem with my wired router because it was happening to me in college today on the Wireless LAN network. I noticed, just before this problem started that the clock on my macbook was reset to January 2001 (not sure if this is in any way relevant).

The technical support lads in college hadn't a clue about it either they said that the macbook "didn't seem to want to accept an IP address". A message showed up asking if I wanted to allow network communications or something like that and clicking allow made it work for the time being. Now it's not working at home again and I haven't a clue what's wrong with it or how to get it to allow incoming network something.

    Any ideas boardsies? thanks

Is there other browser network settings which are set to use this IP manually? Ie even if you change the settings in the control panel the web browser may have its own settings or whatever, don't know much about macs so just a thought

Did your battery run flat? This can wipe the network configuration and cause the clock to reset. See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1972781&tstart=60

Cheers for the help lads. A couple of hours senseless tinkering was all that was required. Messed with the firewall/security settings and that's worked a charm, even after a restart or two to make sure.

    Thanks lads.

After years of this conundrum, ticking WPA and WPA2 in my router settings seems to have put paid to it especially with iPhone. Prior to this, it would hate if 2 iPhones came on my wifi net, resulting frequently in the hated self-assigned IP. All now gone, for the past 4 weeks, following this change.
