I can see where he's going when he says:

There was nothing particularly substandard about the thing I was writing about, just a few little niggles, as there often are with gear.

The idea with reviewing would be to portray your experience and I greatly doubt you can have the perfect experience with any 1 peice of gear.

That goes with everything really, not just music production.
