    Hey,

So I'm new to the world of HD, but am I right in what I've read - that HD TV (from say NTL or Sky) is broadcast in 720p and not 1080p?

When I hit the info button on my TV (while watching the Masters on BBC HD) it said it was displaying at 1280x720 and not 1920x1080 (as it would with the PS3). So how would it work when the 720 vertical pixels have to be rendered over 1080 vertical pixels - surely blurring will occur?

To be honest while watching the Masters last night I couldn't see any difference between BBC SD and BBC HD when flicking between the 2. What's up with that? And yes - my TV is full HD and connected via HDMI to my NTL HD box.

Any thoughts? Am I doing it wrong?!

Sky and BBC broadcast in 1080i. For 1080p a lot of bandwidth is required and most wouldn't see the difference anyway. It is not viable for Sky or UPC to provide that.

BBC HD looks rubbish because it is. The BBC slashed bit rates a while back so it is nothing that you are doing wrong.

You should check the settings on your HD box to make sure that it is set to 1080i and not 720p.

Tv broadcasts in the US are 720p, but not here.

Not all broadcasts in the US are 720p.

CBS, CW, NBC and PBS for example offer 1080i. Quite a few of the cable networks use 1080i also.

I thought Sky Movies broadcast in 1080i but Sky Sports broadcasts in 720p as progressive scan shows fast movement better than interlaced ?

Sky Sports is 1080i just like all the other Sky HD channels
