Setantabet.com has called an end to the title race by becoming the first bookmaker to pay out on all winning bets for Chelsea to claim the Premier League trophy.

With the Blues not in action this weekend, Manchester United had the perfect opportunity to close the gap at the top of the table with victory against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

However, a scoreless draw in that game handed a clear advantage back to Carlo Ancelotti's Chelsea side, who are now one point clear of United with a game in hand.

Michael O'Rourke, joint CEO of the Setanta Sports group and avid Chelsea fan, said: “We are happy that Carlo Ancelotti’s team has safely wrapped up the league and we are paying out early to all our customers who backed Chelsea to win the title.

"In fairness our site wasn’t up and running at the beginning of the season so we’ve less exposure to Chelsea winning the league than some of the other bookies. However if Man Utd were to somehow come from behind now and win the title we’d be looking at a five figure loss on our early payout.”

Setantabet.com was also the only bookmaker in Ireland and the United Kingdom to pay six places on each way bets for Saturday's Grand National at Aintree.

“Our six place promotion was a hit with the punters and we are delighted with the response it received," added O'Rourke. "Of course we lost money on the promotion but the damage would have been far worse if Character Building had run into 6th Place as we’d considerable exposure on him.”

lol considering that setantbet only was formed about 2 months ago, they would of paid out next to nothing on this

just a paddy power esque attempt at trying to garnish some free publicity from the tabloids

Better than nothing though, they're still risking 20 or 30 grand.

As said they're only just open (didn't think it was 2months though?)

Noticed they were the only bookies to offer 6 places in the National.
