Sorry if this has been done before but just got a message from Amazon specifically about delivery outside UK, don't know if it is a specific for me or just general blurb.

Anyway, it says, amongst other things, -

"The following items can only be delivered to addresses within the UK - children's clothing, children's shoes, children's car seats, blank media items, such as CDs, DVDs and MP3 players, safety equipment and medicines. Light bulbs and TV equipment cannot be shipped to Ireland (Republic of). "

Sort of weird list? Can anyone throw light on the reasons why, for example, you cannot get blank CDs?? Or is this true?

Blank media - Most likely due to a certain tax/percentage paid to the local RIAA (love this type of tax, we pay a tax because some people might use it to pirate yet it is illegal to pirate when we've paid a tax to compensate it to RIAA  )

Safety & Medicine - To comply with local legal requirements/testing which Amazon can not guarantee

Children clothes etc - No clue

    TV items - Size/weight I'd guess

All have different vat conditions between countries, I think Ireland has 0% on childrens items, or at least used to have

blank media items, such as CDs, DVDs and MP3 players,
Combination of WEEE charges and RipusoffIAA charges

    safety equipment and medicines.
Cannot guarantee that they conform to safety regulations in other countries

Light bulbs and TV equipment cannot be shipped to Ireland (Republic of).
WEEE charges and the ban on 100W+ incandescents in Ireland "

Sort of weird list? Can anyone throw light on the reasons why, for example, you cannot get blank CDs?? Or is this true?

VAT should not be an issue for Amazon now as they do charge irish VAT for orders to Ireland

. Could be something around meeting legal tests for childrens clothes or something possibly though.

The TV could be something to do with different tuners, although many LCDs etc do not have tuners and are more like monitors. If it was just the WEEE other things should be omitted.

As Nody said the VAT on clothes should not be an issue, some guy made a plugin that took VAT into account on amazon stuff, it knew which VAT rate to charge and what had different vat rates here.

    on their page here http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=524836
Additional delivery restrictions may apply to specific items or sub-categories due to the specific nature of some products. These products might be restricted to delivery to the UK or mainland UK only (excludes Northern Ireland and the UK islands) or to only some other countries. For example large items, such as any item that is 30 kg or heavier, e.g. a widescreen television (larger than 26") or some fitness equipment can only be delivered to mainland UK.

The following items can only be delivered to addresses within the UK - children's clothing, children's shoes, children's car seats, blank media items, such as CDs, DVDs and MP3 players, safety equipment and medicines. Light bulbs and TV equipment cannot be shipped to Ireland (Republic of).

Please note that unless otherwise specified electrical equipment and appliances sold on Amazon.co.uk are sold with electrical plugs compatible with United Kingdom electrical outlets only. You will need a plug adapter if you wish to use these products outside the United Kingdom.

Thread started on amazon too http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/forum/cd/discussion.html/ref=cm_cd_fp_ef_tft_tp?ie=UTF8&cdForum=Fx2FLUZINAGPAPP&cdThread=Tx3LU51O56F89Q

Tnks, the quote you had was the same one I used, just a bit longer. I appreciate the tv weight, but they deliver to NI, so what's the diff?? Obviously VAT/Wee, more likely the latter. However, you can buy TVs in Spain/Germany for delivery in France.....I don't think you can do that with Komplett, etc. for Ireland.

Other q., is it still a requirement to buy music for i-pods, etc on a national site? This was being investigated by the EU as a restraint of trade, as was a restriction on blank media for royalty reasons.
