Recently started a job at tesco.

Yesterday I was working 9 hours with a 1 hour break. You have to clock in and out for your break.
    • So, I clocked in at the start of my shift.
    • Then clocked out at the start of my break.
    • Forgot to clock back in at the end of the break.
    • Then, when my shift was finishing, I clocked back in (< < < which should have been done at the end of the break) instead of clocking out!! :O

I only remembered this when I got home last night and I'm not in work till tomorrow. What happens/. Will the system automatically clock me out?? Or will I have to inform a manager of my stupidity?

i dont see the problem with informing HR about it. I'm sure it happens more often then you think.
it would be much better to inform them yourself, so they can sort it out. Rather then them finding out after checking the machines and having to chase you up on it.
just ring them and tell them, its an honest mistake.

I think I will tell them.

But does anybody know if they clock out automatically??

any place ive ever worked in with clock cards do not clock you out automatically - when you go into work next and swipe your card - you are actually clocking out!
your better to tell them before you go to work next, that way they can fix the clock system and then when you swipe on your way into work , you will actualy be clocking in

A lot of panicking over the nothing, just call them and tell them you made a mistake. No biggie.

most new clocking systems take into account various T&C's. So for example if you are rostered on to do a 9 hour shift, and then they see that you did a 3 hour shift, clocked out and then apparently worked through the night, it will automatically flag this to whomever in responsible for your time card - your manager/store payroll whomever. They will then follow up on it.
I know in my last place where we clocked in because there were no shifts longer than 10 hrs and no shifts past 10pm, if someone appeared to be in work 11 hrs, or after 10pm it was flagged in the system and the manager would be asked to confirm if this person did actually work those hours.

don't fret over it - just let your manager know. I am 100% certain that this happens a lot.

but just remember, most places only give a few minutes grace on the clock in time, and some none at all. my last place would dock you 15 mins if you clocked in even 1 min late or clocked out 1 min early!

If its at Tesco you should have no problem proving your presence, the place is riddled with CCTV.

During my time in a supermarket(not tesco),if this happened there generally wouldnt be a problem if you told them. The only thing is if they process their wages on a Monday they could leave the hours the way they are and you'd only get paid for the hours between clocking in at start of shift and clocking out for your lunch. Then the missing hours would be added to the next weeks wages when the cash office is informed.

Just give them a bell or say it to them as soon as you start work the next time.

Yes as above, tell your section manager tomorrow.

On Monday a list of 'missed clocks' is handed out and your manager will get you to sign it. You may be docked wages but you will get it back next week.

You usually don't get in to real trouble until it happens 3 times.

In any shops I ever worked in the system would detect a missed swipe and cut off after midnight... best to let them know yourself though.
