Changing terms of Contract

    Hi all,

I am currently working in a manufacturing facility as a contract engineer. This is my first job after finishing college. I have been here for about 6 weeks now. Today a meeting has been called to discuss putting all the contract engineers on shifts. I initially signed a contract for days only so surely there should be some pay increase involved? I am on fairly poor money as it is, €1700 a month. Does anybody know what kind of increase, if any, I could be expecting?
    Thanks

Shift allowance for uncomfortable hours would be the best I'd hope for honestly.

A contract is a legally enforceable instrument agreed between two or more parties that can only be changed upon agreement of all parties concerned.

You should seek some assistance from either a Union or solicitor as the change in contract you mention is quite drastic and will impact on your social life, health and a number of other factors such as pay. Try and speak with others that are affected by the change and see if they feel the change is unfair or could be used to better thier positions.

The very least I would expect would be some compensation, either in the form of enhanced working conditions, perhaps an extra day or two of holiday leave or maybe financial.

    But not all three. :D

The shift allowence only comes into play when you doing night work so 6-2 and 2-10 wouldn't count but if you are working nights at any time there is usually a shift allowance, possibly 33% extra per month.
