Scrap heap and junk yards

Apologies if there's been answers to this everywhere but I'm a bit new to this! I'm wondering if there's any scrap heaps left around Dublin where you can walk in and wander about and buy parts for a cheap enough price!

I've been looking everywhere for a place where you can do this but what with that certain coloured political party being in government I'm guessing they'd be far and few between!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Cheers:D

The scrap yard across from the Red Cow on the Naas Road (just of the M50) allows you to wander around it freely, or at least it did the last time I was there about a year ago.

    Prices aren't too bad either.

Due to regulations and insurance its hard to find a yard that lets you wander. My local one was great, but now you have to wait in line and usually they go and get the stuff for you. But it makes no odds to me really as whats in there is 99% modern(1990 on). Not like the old days..

What are you looking for Ciar1990?

Well I'm looking for a back axle with or without a diff to weld up a trailer just as a little project to keep myself busy!

Any ideas how much one would cost? My uncle said that about 20 years he got one for £30. Those were the days!!

I maybe taking the rear axle of a Micra in a month or two's time if you can wait. You can have it free if you want.

Something like this is ideal, last trailer i made had an axle off a 'box' starlet, nice and light.
Not so easy to find an old RWD axle anymore, any that were lying around here, and they were mainly ford ones had the diffs pilfered from them.

you'd be better off geting an axel without a diff for the trailer to keep the weight low
i used to make car trailers for a few years in the 90's and i found the best to use were mk II and III fiestas mk II starlets and box shape micras from the late eighties
