I'm Getting Digital Channels on Rabbit Ears? How?

Hi, I recently hit the Auto Tune button on my LG 19" TV in my bedroom and it found over 60 DTV channels even though it is only connected to a simple indoor aerial (Circular)

I couldn't believe it when Auto tune finished I was looking at ITV1/ITV3/Channel4/More4/Channel5/ and lots more. There were a good few that there was no signal for and other like Sky News & Sky sports news that were badly pixelated and unwatchable. Some had a message that flashed up stating no CI module connected whatever that means

The picture on the channels i get is perfect for about 5-10 mins then begins to pixelate but it usually comes back

Can any one advise what's going on here, is there anything I can do to reduce the drop out of service?

I have a basic sky package but that's downstairs in the living room and not connected in any way to the TV in the bedroom.

    A nice surprise, alright!
What you're receiving is Digital Terrestrial Television, broadcast from transmitters on the top of hills in the UK. The service is branded as Freeview.

Presumably you're located either in the Southeast, or along the border, as these are the areas most likely to get this overspill.
To improve the signal, you need to fine tune the orientation of you're aerial towards one of the transmitters located on this page http://www.ukfree.tv/txlist.php Put it close to a window if you can.

It's also possible that the atmospheric weather conditions of the last week are having an effect, and when these change your indoor aerial won't get anything. In that case, or possibly anyway, you'll need a bigger and better aerial, preferably outdoors, to get reliable reception. You could split this signal to feed all the TVs in your house.

Did the autotune pick up any Irish channels? These are testing at the moment, but are due to launch in October, branded as Saorview. Many of the recent LGs have the capability to receive these also, but other sets won't, as they are a slightly different format to the UK signals.

Hope that helps, and good luck with with it all.

For the last few days and for the rest of this week theres a high pressure lift.
    Thats most likely the cause.
You would need an outdoor aerial outside of those lifts/current high pressure weather unless you are very near the NI border.
There are some high parts of wexford/south wicklow that may also give you this from an indoor aerial on a more regular basis.
The fix however is also an outdoor aerial and amp.
See the many threads on this board :)
