I dunno, but I'd be thinking either faulty disc or faulty drive. Any other Mac you could try it on? Are other discs okay?

The drive is ok, other disks work fine just this one. Could be faulty, is there any way to get a replacement for free as I'm a bit stuck without it!

I'm not too sure. I suppose you could contact Apple and see what they say.

Sounds silly but clean the disc with a CD/DVD wipe working from the inside out. Make sure there is no residue on the disc before you try it again; the tiniest fleck or scratch can render the DVD corrupt.

Maybe your installer app. is sick or is having a permission issue. Do a fsck in single user mode to check the drive and then try repairing permissions in disk utility.
