    Hey... Just a few questions

    - Is it likely that tickets will come available to the general public for the Match?
    - Flights wise, what would people be thinking... Fly to Biarritz directly from Dublin (Very expensive) Or fly where??

Is it likely that there would be a special set of flights to suit the day the match is??

    Thanks
    Puzzled Munster Supporter :)

Maybe fly into Bilbao, which is only about an hour down the road by bus from San Sebastian. Maybe take in the architectural wonder that is the Guggenheim museum :D

San Sebastian is class. So cheap to stay there. They have a Temple Bar style area right in the centre of the old city area. Thats where you wanna stay in San Sebastian. I was there last year. Its well worth a visit.

According to the Munster website, there will be no public sale of tickets for this game. We're entitled to what, a quarter of the overall ticket allocation? So thats in around the 8,000 mark. Hard to know whether all these will be snapped up or not.

I was at the game against Biarritz in 04, and we stayed in Biarritz. The fans there are mental, passionate about their rugby, their region, and are such craic. Definitely recommend staying in Biarritz if you can, some cheap hotels to be found.

Do Ryanair not fly to Biarritz from Shannon anymore. I was over there two years ago, a beautiful part of the world. This would be one of the top rate away days.

I'd reiterate what the last two said there -I'm somewhat jealous, If I had the choice of which team to play in the semis, i'd pick Biarritz just for the away trip. Spent a week in Biarritz last summer, and its an absolutely beautiful place. Locals are very friendly, good food, good wine, if you can go, do.

Also, find the very small bar with all the rugby jerseys, which is located here:

    http://maps.google.com/maps?q=43.48052,-1.563182&num=1&sll=43.482248,-1.56083&sspn=0.032389,0.06403&ie=UTF8&ll=43.480511,-1.563202&spn=0.001938,0.004823&z=18

beside the hotel Mason Garnier, run by a very nice French fella who I think played for Biarritz at some stage. Myself and the girlfriend went in to watch one of the lions games, and stuck around for a drink after when everyone else left the pub - he insisted on putting on "the wild rover" at full volume, and chatting to us for ages (with my gf acting as interpreter) for ages after. Had many stories to tell about his love of the Irish after the Munster fans being over in '04, so definitely worth giving him a few more if you do.

Can i reiterate that Donosti/San Sebastian is a really really beautiful city and i'd love to visit it again!

You can fly Ryanair to Biarritz and Santander and Aer Lingus to Bilbao.

Those are the nearest i reckon.

So how would you get tickets to this?
I'm a member of the munster supporters club and a thomond park magners league season ticket holder, but was never in a position to go to an away match before (no funds )

    Not anymore they don't.
I guess that was one of the routes that was canned by O'Leary when they pulled out of SNN.
What a pity the Ferry from Cork to Gijon isn't running yet, that would be a class way to get down there.

Any suggestions for best priced packages etc. to get to the game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,692 ✭✭✭shawpower

Game is in San Sebastian. As a Leinster fan, I was looking at prices to fly into the South of France. Bordeaux is hugely expensive. Best bet for Munster fans is possibly Ryanair into Nantes, and then a train/carhire down the coast. It's likely to go up, as a lot of Leinster fans also looking at it.

Price is currently €35 for flight and about €50-€60 for train to bordeaux.

Problem then is that there are no return flights from there that suit. Maybe travel down into Spain for the return? You can get from Madrid to Dublin for €84 with Ryanair at the moment.

thanks for that shawpower i will look into that this minute, i'm gone guggle eyed from trawling the web all day.

Was going to suggest aerlingus to Bilbao but the price is insane! Nantes might be your best bet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 103 ✭✭puddie77

ya purcela i saw that this morning, haven't they some nerve..if both munster and leinster win we'll never get out of the country, they'll milk it altogether.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 219 ✭✭purcela

They're a sham. I was looking at aerlingus prices to Toulouse after Leinster won on Friday, but obviously was waiting for Toulouse to win before booking anything. By Saturday afternoon aerlingus had taken down the option to book flights to Toulouse 14 days either side of the 1st of May, obviously waiting to jack up the price as soon as Toulouse won.

Ryanair are already charging through the roof for a flight to Beauvais the weekend of the final. I assume aerlingus are doing something similar!

there is still the Ferry option :D one Car 4 people and a lot of driving

    :confused::confused::confused:

I was looking at AerLingus on Sunday morning and debating whether to just buy direct flights from Dub to Toulouse. They were at about €140pp which aren't bad considering what they've jumped to since. Not sure why you couldn't see any flights listed on Saturday...

You should also check out Belfast/Dublin/Cork/Shannon/Knock to Lourdes. Lourdes is about half way between San Seb & Toulouse.

Just note that I didn't look into any flights in Spain so maybe there is cheaper than Nantes. Madrid was around €100 from dublin iirc, but didn't see any others. You could fly to west of Spain, like AerL to Santiago De Compostela for about €170 round trip at the moment, but it's a decent drive between there and San Sebastian. (Fabulous scenary mind, been there twice). Not sure on price of train or bus though.

Can't find any AerL or Ryanair flights from Dublin Cork or knock to Lourdes... If there were, I'd imagine they'd be heavily booked by Leinster fans though, jacking up the price for our red brethern. Similar to the prices in Bordeaux I'd say.

For the final itself, flying to London and getting the Eurostar to Paris is a good bet..... thats if we all have a reason to go to the final!

Ryanair to luton and easyjet to CDG is around 200 euro all in

Another good option is to fly into Santander with Ryanair. This leaves a road trip of approximately 2 hours. Prices are normally pretty reasonable too.

Basque train system is pretty good so Bilbao or Santander are all options, another one that could be done if I remember correctly from my interrailing days is to get the overnight sleeper from Barcelona, saves on a nights hotel , cheap flights to Girona or Reus and you can have a good booze up on the way to San Seb also. Went to Pamplona a couple of years ago this way (went to San Seb and bussed to Pamplona) and the Sleeper took 8 hours.

This time I have booked to fly from Dublin - Bordeaux, I'm making a week of it Wednesday to Wednesday so I got my flights for €107 return with Aer Lingus, it is a 4.5 hour drive to San Sebastian.
I have been down to San Sebastian twice before, for the last Munster match down there I flew into Biarritz from Dublin, rented a car for the short drive to San Sebastian (Donostia).
The place & area in general was so nice we went back down there in 2007. My favourite Tapas bar was in the corner of the Bull Ring in the old quarter of San Sebastian.

In 2007 we flew into Biarritz from Shannon (route now gone), we stayed in a lovely hotel out in a tiny village called Getaria, a bit for out for match stays unless you don't mind a bit of a drive after the match (I'm gonna stay in San Seb). We drove up to Bordeaux from here to hang out in Bordeaux the day before the Ireland match so I am somewhat familiar with the routes in the area.

According to Google maps San Sebastian is a 2.5 hour drive to Toulouse so those die-hards could actually make both matches.

Bilbao is also a very good option, a handy drive up to San Sebastian or Biarritz, done this drive both time as well. Santander would be a bit further tough.

For the cheapest car rental I would recommend:

http://www.autoeurope.com. I got a VW Golf for the week this time for €217.

if you are driving to San Sebastian just note that you will see more signs for Donostia, this is what San Sebastian is known as, think of the An Daingean fiasco & you might understand the issue.

I'm an associate member with Single venue season ticket, bricking it now that i might not get 2 match tickets!

Should take you a little bit less than 3 hours to drive from Bordeaux to Stadio Anoeta but on the May WE there might be some traffic that way ;)

in that case I'd be surprised if you did not get a ticket, given the allocation

Calling on all Munster fans... Me and 3 friends are traveling to see the game in the wkd of may. We are traveling from shannon to London and then onto santander on the 30th of April(Friday). I have been looking for the last 2 days of getting to biarritz on the same day but the public transport isn't that great and it is talking 3 times the journey as it should be. I have found a private taxi company that would drive there but for the 4 of us its too expensive. So i am hoping for some replies that's in the same boat as me and we can get a few together and hire a bus to biarritz which would take 2 and half hours and not 5 if you go the public transport.

Have you really been looking hard? :)
You can get coaches direct, and for as little as €13. It's approx a 3 hour trip. Return is €25.

Hey... I checked that web site already. When i fly into santander i should be landing at 16.55.. The bus leaves santander at 17.15 from the city centre i think??? Thats the last bus i think beacuse it doesn't give any other times when leaving santander. So prop wont make it. From santander to bayonne cost 53 euro and it takes 4 and half hours... Can you check and let me know if this is right?? Sound....

I'm not sure if you might be a bit mixed up, but I assume you are travelling to San Sebastian? Biarritz/Bayonne are slightly further up the coast. I just checked the site again, for that Friday evening the times are 17:00, 19:00 and 20:30 from Santander to San Sebastian. Vary from 2hr 40 min to 2 hr 55 min. €13.

We are not staying in san sebastian we are staying in biarrritz. I know the match is on in san sebastain but we are not staying there. But we can take the bus to san sebastain and then get a taxi to biarritz from there.

Check what time the train from San Seb to Biarritz runs until, it goes from the centre of SS to the outskirts of Biarritz, and is a very short taxi ride/bus journey then - if it runs late enough.

Why don't ye just stay in San Sebastian? It seems a bit pointless going up to Biarritz and then coming down again the next day for the game.
