Too long to quote the whole article - basically a gay guy died, they buried him in the cemetary, a few hours later he was dug up and dumped outside his parents.

Obviously they didn't want their relatives spending eternity lying beside a gay man.

    EDIT:
"A man that's known as being a homosexual can't be buried in a cemetery. His body needs to be thrown away like trash," says Sene. "His parents knew that he was gay and they did nothing about it. So when he died we wanted to make sure he was punished."

I wonder what delightful reason they had for doing that.

Humans are a disgusting bunch sometimes.

Jaysus that's disgraceful! I thought the world had copped on and gotten past this homophobia, but clearly not. Sick pricks!

Being gay is illegal in at least 37 African countries?

That is some messed up continent.

It really is just a lawless place, isn't it?

In fairness, they are where we were about 200 years ago in many ways.

But we sold them machine guns and cars.

Let's not forget all the oil that they have down there which we want.

    And the diamonds and gold.

Madieye Diallo's body had only been in the ground for a few hours when the mob descended on the weedy cemetery with shovels. They yanked out the corpse, spit on its torso, dragged it away and dumped it in front of the home of his elderly parents.

And so, my faith in humanity continues to diminish...

    You know what I mean.

They can go around killing each other, without fear of conviction.

Instead of improving, it's actually getting worse. It's being tacitly encouraged by some of the US religious right, especially in Uganda:

Randomly, I was visiting Westminster abbey a while back. Both Edward I and III are there. Not Edward II (the rumoured gay one) - one of the guys working there claimed his heart was buried in one place and the rest of the body in another.

Homosexuality is only legal in Ireland since 1993. The Irish government fought strongly against legalisation and only legalised it after a European count of human rights judgement.

Wasn't homosexuality illegal in the early 90's?....we were that way less than 20 years ago.

Yes, but we weren't that anti-gay for much longer.

Even 100 years ago, digging up their corpses and returning them to their parents would have been frowned upon (I would imagine).

On reading the topic title i seriously thought this was a case of a dead man being dumped by his lover, like that pope who was dug up and his bones put on trial.

Yes, it's all the white man's fault.

This is the reason I wouldn't donate a cent to Africa. You're only supporting homophobia like this. They don't know how to act civilised. Africa's main problem is overpopulation. Let natural selection take its course and kill off a few million. By sending them aid we are postponing famine, allowing them to have more babies and thereby creating even more mouths to feed when the aid runs out and they face famine again.

As much I despise the action of people who think they have the right to castigate other people because of their sexual orientation, I think most comments on this threads are atrousious, more so the quoted one.

Homosexuality, like religion is a very contentious issue and requires patience and understanding. Yes !!! Africa has a lot of problems and understandably so,but I think the level of thinking and responces on this thread is simply insulting. For instance Dubai is arguably one of the most developed parts of the world but yet they still jail couples for kissing ( not sex) in public and this is common practice in the whole of the middle east due to cultural and religious factors - would ye also imply that they are idiots??. I thinks folks should think before posting because it shows weakness when you feel that you are better than others.

P.S. When the poster referred to White men, I definitely know you did not include Ireland in that equation because Ireland at the time was just a little better than Africa is now.

I wouldn't imply it, I'd say it (and worse) - about whomever decides on and supports such laws.
I agree with you about some bits of the quote you posted (e.g. "they" can't act civil - although I think training/teaching at grassroots level would be more beneficial than anonymous aid, but I'm not in favour of natural selection) plus, Africa's a BIG place. It's a continent - like Europe. Is all of Europe the same?

Being tolerant of other cultures is a good thing obviously, but I don't think it's necessary to go as far as you do in your post. Sure, maybe some cultures have difficulty coming to grips with homosexuality, but excusing THIS kind of behaviour? If it happened in a western country, you'd be happy to criticise it - I don't agree with making exceptions for African people... it's kinda condescending tbh and just another form of marginalising members of a race. People have a right to criticise this for its barbarity, because... well it's barbaric. Irrespective of where it is.

Bizarrely enough, I do indeed consider Ireland a nicer society to live in than one in which such a thing is done. If that to you is me considering myself better than a person who happened to be born into the society being discussed above, so be it. It should also be considered that there are bound to be members of that society who are also appalled by this - I presume it's not a problem for them to criticise it though?

How does feeding, caring and educating children in one place cause homophobia thousands of km away?

Western countries have been exploiting many countries in Africa for centuries and still are. I'm not saying that the rest of the world is to blame for all of Africa's problems but the "white man" as you put it, has certainly made a contribution to them!

There are over 680,000,000 people living in Africa so I hardly think letting a few million people die is going to solve Africa's hunger problems .
Also, aid doesn't refer to just food. It also refers to security, investing in healthcare and education, and ensuring that the country in question is being governed justly. The aim of sending aid is not to postpone famine.

Ignoring the fact that you've completely generalized the entire continent of Africa (we should be talking about Senegal, by the way), you still haven't explained how supporting African-based charities promotes homophobia.... so, would you care to enlighten us?

True, doubt that would be done with paedophiles now.

Imagine if family knew a relative was buried next to a paedophile?
