    Hi,

Just wondering which of these used to be Spirit. Used to live in Dublin so out of touch with venues up there now.

Are the 2 venues separate or were they both in the old Spirit? If not, which one was the old Spirit and what was where the other one was?

i.e. if twisted pepper is where spirit used to be, what was where the academy is now?

Also, what other venues have electro or techno music at weekends? Is there much up in the Pod/Redbox? What do you call the dance venue now, is it still the Redbox or is it something else? Tripod or something?

All questions, just confused by the whole thing and am looking for a night's dancing in next few weeks.

    Thanks.

Spirit is now the Academy - it's 3 story and one of the biggest nightclubs in town. Bar from proper ticketed gigs, no one really goes there anymore as its marketing itself as Dublin's new 'Urban' club.

Twisted Pepper was formerly Traffic. About 50 metres from the Academy. It's much bigger now than it was though. Best venue in Dublin - miles ahead of Tripod for normal (non ticketed) nights and the best bouncers and door staff in Dublin.

Red box is now Tripod (Side entrance). In the same complex is Crawdaddy (middle area) and the Pod (closest the Odeon).

Kennedy's on Westland Row caters for the grottier end of things with some nice promoters and more eclectic gigs - proper little sweaty dungeon. There's a few residencies spotted around, ColourTV have theirs in 'The Good Bits' on Store Street (formerly Radio City).

Pre-gaming in the Bernard Shaw (dublins best bar hands down) is well worth it if you're making. I think scribble are residents? I really can't remember at this stage. They have some great afterparties starting from noon on bank holidays and the likes.

Market Bar on Exchequer street plays some nice deep house at the weekends, Ri Ra does stuff, Cirque on Dame Street does stuff ehm... that's it off the top of my head. Check out the Gig/Events listings at the top

Sweet. That answers all my questions and more.

    Thanks a million.

Jaysus, things have changed since I was there alright. Then again, the last thing I was at was Deep Dish in the Redbox in 2003!

I wouldn't have said that Academy was "Urban" at all. Their main night on a Saturday is Propaganda which is an indie night. They are venue first of all and then trying to cater for the gig going rocky crowd with their late night stuff.

Their Fri night used to be a dublin institution - esp. up on the top floor with the podium dancers and that. Now its R'n'B and the worst of the US 'Urban' scene.

Just looking on their site there and your right the Friday night is some gash R&B night upstairs and an 80's night on in the basement.
