There are absolutely no guarantees about the security of your password using a third party script like that; just something to be wary of if you decide to enter your username and password.

Though TCD sends our passwords in the clear way too often anyway.

Try this:

https://filestorage.tcd.ie/student<FIRST LETTER OF YOUR USERNAME>/<USERNAME>

That's for the general college wide filestorage if that's what you're looking for? There's a way of getting into the comp sci ones remotely too. I can't remember the exact address though. It's something like macneil.cs.tcd.ie/filestorage or something like that.

Well I'm not too sure about that; but I could pretty quickly throw together a script similar to the one on that page and have it store everyones usernames and passwords. If I was to try and retrieve passwords by somehow intercepting tcd.ie accesses it would be significantly more difficult (impossible without some kind of physical access in fact), however.

Not that I'm suggesting the author may have done so; but those who have sensitive information within their TCD filestorage or indeed share their e-mail password with their TCD password might want to limit their usage of it and change their passwords immediately afterward.

Awesome thanks a mil for the link. Just tried it there and works a dream. Bookmarked for those times when a deadline looms and you can't find your memory stick anywhere!
Feel much better using this than some random site that could easily take your login details. Though don't think there is much anyone could do with them.

I know the person who wrote that script. He isn't even in TCD anymore.

Agreed. Everytime you use webct is one example.

If you want remote read write access to your filestorage you can follow these instructions for pc and mac.

If you want to access your cs filestorage you can do so with Filezilla or any other SFTP/SCP client.
Filezilla settings for cs filestorage are:

host:|macneill.cs.tcd.ie
username:|username
password:|comp sci password
port:|22

Thanks for that Jonathan. Good to know that's an ISS approved method and not some loophole that's going to be closed.

Is there any way of getting into the get folders from home? I'm guessing we can't?

Possibly.
What server is the get/put folder on? ntserver-something I think.

It says on the tcd website that they aren't available from home or on the internet :( But yeah I think it's \\ntserver-usr\get\ or something like that

Hi Everyone,

Sorry to resurrect an old post but I just wanted to clarify a few things regarding my filestorage script. First off, I made the source code to this script available in a post on Boards back in 2009:

http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055724956&highlight=filestorage+script

Jonathan is right, I no longer attend TCD. So while I assure you that I do not have any interest in storing your passwords or personal information, you should probably refrain from using the script as I do not know how secure it is right now.

I would love to see this script expanded and turned into something useful, as I spent quite a bit of time working on it. If anyone feels like doing something with it, I will be more than happy to answer any questions etc. Just send me an email (address included in source code README)

Greetings from Canada! :D

Class thread. I've often wondered this. Thanks everyone!

Its kinda ironic, I have my SCSS drive on macneill mounted in Ubuntu and I get nice prompt access from miles away on the rare occasions I actually have to use it but while in labs I have to wait for 10mins for it to retrieve my user profile.

Never needed to get at my ISS space, but its good to know that I can.

Do you mean to say that webct passwords are stored as plain text?

Passwords are sent across the wire as plaintext.

Have a look at the raw packets and you'll see something similar to the following.
