    Hi all,
Yesterday my sister rang me to say her car had died its an opel astra 1999 club 1.4xe. I got the car to my house today and the power is completely gone with loud roar coming from the engine also some shaking as if its going to cut out.
She has been told her cat is knackered or blocked. But i have read a few other sites along with older posts here and everything is pointing towards the fuel delivery.

Anyone got a ODB cable for opel for sale?

    Any other mechanical advise appreciated

    Thanks

I'm not sure if it's that engine or the later version that has coil problems, but the shaking and loud noise sounds similar to the coil issue I had in my old Skoda. Fingers crossed it is the coils as it's a cheap and easy fix.

To diagnose you'll probably need to take the engine cover off and you'll be able to see the individual coils that are on top of the spark plugs. You can pull these out 1 by 1 (make sure you only hold it by the rubber), engine running at this time. If the coil you take out is a working one, the engine will start to sound even worse. If the coil you remove is knackered then there will be no change to the engine note. If you can find the knackered coil, take it along to your local motor factor and it will probably cost around €40 for a replacement.

The above is what my mechanic did on my Skoda when the first coil blew, I presume it's the same on the Opel but someone with a bit more experience might correct me.

It would be my first choice to diagnose as it's easy enough to do yourself and could be a cheap fix. If the CAT is knackered, it could be a lot more expensive.

I think it's a 1-piece coil pack with them - it slots down on top of the 4 plugs, so it's hard to determine which cylinder is misfiring.

I'd say your coil pack could be at fault as well, it seems to be a well documented problem with them.

Does the 2007 astra have a single coil pack ? or individual on each plug ?

I'm looking at an ignition coil is this the same part ?
