growing squashes/melons

    i been told that you can grow the above in fresh manure can some one tell me if that's correct?

    Yes, but sprout them in potting compost and give them a decent bit of topsoil around that when you are planting them out. The young roots won't like choking in manure until the plant is a good size. Bury a few shovels of manure 5-10 inches from where you plant them and the roots will find it as the plants grow. I give squashes about a sq meter each because they love spreading out all over the place.

    hi. I had lots of plants last year from seed of a supermarket squash, none came to fruit though. Was it me or what?
