Partitions Help.... Installing Snow Leopard.

Hey All, Would love a quick reply on this..

I have my OS on Macintosh HD and all my extra files on Data HD. I'm upgrading to Snow Leopard the weird dmg way because my disk drive isn't working..
My plan is to mount the OS installer on Data HD2 and install the new OS on Macintosh HD2. This should work perfect and I'll be able to dual boot.. Trust me.

This is what the partitions would look like if I pressed accept right now.

The problem is that the partitions will be all over the place, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to merge the two data partitions but the OS partition is going to be stuck in the middle.. So I'll be left with 3 partitions no matter what.

Is there a way around this? Thanks if anyone can get back.. Was planning on doing this pretty soon.

If I installed on Macintosh HD2 and had an OS running safe, would it be an idea to format Macintosh HD1, re-install the OS on that again, delete HD2 and merge the two.. That way my OS would be at the start?
