The kit from Jackson Sports works out at €81 with free delivery. I've used them tens of times for kit and recommend them wholeheartedly.

I just couldn't justify spending another €44 for the Petzl kit from OAS - Just not worth the extra.

Jackson Sports will USUALLY deliver next day if you get your order in with them by lunchtime. Occasionally it'll slip out to the day after, but most times stuff arrives next day. I've ordered kit at about noon and had it delivered from Belfast to my office in Dublin before I even get there, at 9am next day!

    How's that for service!? :D

I can only give my opinion so here it is:

Both DMM and Petzl are great brands. But there's some good elements from both packs.

    1. The DMM harness has adjustable leg loops, which are good (and recommended) for getting a nice customised fit, whereas the Petzl one dosn't.

    2. I (and alot of other people) would choose the Petzl Verso over the DMM Bug for my belay device.

    3. I wouldn't use either of the crabs in the packs. The DMM is a bit fidgitey and I just don't like the shape of the am'd. Id go for a nice big HMS like the Petzl William.

    4. The DMM chalk bag is nicer to use (and better looking) then the Petzl one.

    5. The Petzl pack comes with loose chalk, but the DMM comes with a chalk ball. Both have different uses. If your climbing indoors go for a chalk ball, if your outdoors go for loose chalk.

I suppose my main point is don't get either. Look around and get the bits individually. For example you could get a Petzl Adjama harness (really really really really nice/good harness), Petzl Verso, Petzl William Crab (Ball Lock), a chalk ball and a nice La Sportiva chalk bag for about €125 including delivery from http://www.bananafingers.co.uk/ and thats the same price as the Petzl set you were looking at, if you're both getting sets then you can split the delivery and it'd be about €120 each. So don't think that a set will be cheaper, you can get all you need, better and for the same price as a set.

All that gear is way better than the packs, and you'll be able to grow into them and use them for years!!!

By the way I always use bananafingers and they are a superb company, with great service and fast delivery, you wont get it next day like Jackson Sports, but 3 days and the kit will be yours.
