hey everyone,

I'm having alot of troble tuning in Rte's on digital

I have a sony tv with built in digital tuner. when I do auto tune, i get 3 different outcomes:

1. tunes in rte's but when i try to look at a channel i either get a black screen or a black screen with sound.

2. tunes in BBC's in digital, including bbc3 and sometimes other channels like sky 3 or sky news. Sometimes they come in with excellent picture and sound but more often than not, its blank when i try to look at it.

3. A mixed combination of some parts of the above 2, but I never get RTE picture in, only sound occasionally.

I live in offaly and have my ariel on the roof of my house pointing north and can get BBC analogue without much problem, if that helps.

Anyway, I just want to get RTE's in digital on my tv and can't. Any suggestions??

RTE sound only = your TV most likely does not support MPEG4.

Thanks for the reply. Is there anything that I can do?

edit: if that's the case, why is that I can get BBC picture? is it sent out with something other than MPEG4??

Can you post the model no. of the tv?

Irish DTT's video compression standard is MPEG-4, the UK uses MPEG-2. Your TV may not support MPEG-4 only MPEG-2.

Options - Buy an MPEG-4 compatible TV, buy an MPEG-4 STB or possibly add a Neotion MPEG4 CAM (depends on the TV model) - see this thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055384875

It seems the Neotion CAM route is dead. Won't work.
