9 p.m. tonight. Updated for 2010 apparently. I'm sure we'll all disagree with the list.

It was terrible. Bizarre rankings and they used the most unfunny clips they could find. Very, very few comedians who have come to prominence in the past 5 years - and you know why? Because they re-used about 70% of the voxpops from the edition of "100 greatest stand-ups" that was on C4 a couple of years ago.

And as for the Jim Davidson interview - I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

Was a load o'bollix... Who the f*ck voted for Lee Evans?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 504 ✭✭✭cypharius

It'll be pretty much the same, I wouldn't mind so much if they showed some newer clips, but those 100 greatests are terrible.

They should do an entirely new one, 100 greatest comedians of the last 10 years, I think that comedy ages.

I was actually shocked Jim Davidson was in the list. I think it says something about a nation if he got in. :S

Absolutely awful list. How Lee Evans, Russel Brand, Dylan Moran and Harry Hill are so high is absolutley beyond me. Billy Connolly, I have no idea how is so high on the list. The people who voted for this must be inept in their views on comedy. And Jim Davidson, don't get me started.

    Chris Rock...

Pattern emerging here... Awful list. Although there are a few I do agree with Demetri Martin, Peter Kay and Jimmy Carr are among my favourite comedians.

Lol so according to you guys there are no good comedians?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 110 ✭✭pphheerroonn

Not that there are none, there are just better ones than made this list.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,496 ✭✭✭Mr. Presentable

If it's anything like the Rock best lists, then they gave voters 125 acts to choose their top 100 from. No surprise the results are strange so. As for the clips, I imagine they chose whatever they could get for free, which would explain some acts having no clip at all.

lets be honest this poll has alan carr above george carlin....as soon as you see that you know not to pay attention to it at all!

I don't think it's that there are no good comedians, it's just the ordering of the list is so bizarre. Billy Connolly has jumped up huge places since the last vote and considering he's done nothing since, it really makes you wonder. And can anyone really say that Ricky Gervais is the third GREATEST stand up of all time?? He was good on his various TV shows and his three stand up shows have been pretty good, but better than all those other 96 below him and the ones not mentioned??? Very doubtful.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,374 ✭✭✭InReality

The program would be better if it was top 25 ( or less ) and had longer clips. & clips are just repeats from earlier shows which makes it hardly worth watching.

My tops would be seinfield , chris rock and connolly.

Seinfield was being offered crazy amounts of money (a million i think ) for a single live show but turned it down.
Rock is always great on tv and very smart as well.
Saw connolly was in dublin a few years ago , guy is a real master.

Michael Mcintyre in the top ten? Jesus Christ!

And don't get me started on Ricky Gervais.

Dreadful list. I really don't get why Billy Connolly is so popular.

There was another, similar documentary on C4 called something like "The Top Ten Comedians' Comedians" where the votes were cast by comedians themselves.

    Bill Hicks came 1st.

No I think Billy Connolly was around #3 and Peter Kay was #1 if I'm not mistaken.

Nope, Billy Connolly was number 1 the last time as well.

Will he rename his new shows "Stewart Lee- 12th best standup" i wonder. :D
    I'm sure he's chuffed at this. :P

Chris Rock shouldnt even be near that list let alone that high on it. Crap list.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

See I'd disagree, I think Chris Rock is a terrific stand up and very deserving of his place.

That's the problem with these lists I suppose. Any list ranking comedians is completely pointless because they all have different styles and people have different tastes. It's like comparing apples and oranges.

Les Dawson higher than George Carlin, w...t....f..

Russel Howard? Come on now, he's hardly one of the best comedians around now, never mind of all time.

Channel 4 viewers. And therein lies the problem.
