    how are things gang

i have a three year old macbook, shes running leopard snow, super machine altogether.

the only thing is that she runs hot and fan dont shut the .... up!

so i already tried all the cooling pads and cooling bars and all that lark, doesnt really work imho.

so im gonna try and get her opened up and cleaned.

Im in cologne in germany, and havint come across any mac stores, but there is a reputable mac reseller and he will do the dirty work for 80e.

i heard of a backstreet turkish computer workshop that will do it for 40e, not sure if its worth the risk

what money we be talking if it were back in ireland for this very service?

I ll be headed home soon, and could get it done there just the same.

    talk soon,
    ed

Do it yourself. Macbook fans are easily accessed by pulling out most of the screws at the sides/bottom and then pulling off the keyboard section.

most likely the fan needs replacing. hoovering out won't fix your problem. if its the left fan I've seen many of these need replacing.

Unless you are using your Mac in a very dusty place, I doubt hoovering it out will fix anything.

You've brought this up quite a few times, eurotrotter. The last time you revealed your liking for flash videos which will get an Mac's fans going after a while.

Have you ruled out software problems, misbehaving background processes, etc?

When you say you macbook is noisy can you be more specific. The reason I ask is because I have a macbook from the same generation as you, and one of the two fans in mine (there are 2 in the pros, not sure how many in the normal macbook) gets extremely noisy when it spins behond a certain speed. The sound it makes is more akin to a clicking sound compared to hoover-esk sound a healty fan should make. Anyway in my case the bearings on the fan are gone so I'm going to have to replace the whole thing, should cost me about €40 for the parts off ebay. Just a heads up in case you have the same problem.

The problem lies with Flash being a buggy, resource-hogging piece of sh*t. The best way around the problem would be for everyone everywhere to stop using it altogether. I'm not holding my breath though. In the meantime you could try using a Flash blocker, such as ClicktoFlash (for Safari) or Kill-Flash (for Chrome).
