Can anyone tell me if Humex Freesat boxes will work in ROI as I am worried about the "Post Code issue", I really like the look of the Humex and need the information before I buy. What have you used in this situation, sorry I am new to this site so if you have answered before please bear with me.
I live in Bray Co Wicklow and want to ditch NTL.I have priced the Humex on Amazon and think it is a good buy but the "enter Post Code", worries me.

The Freesat box will work anywhere it can connect to the Astra2D satellite, that includes anywhere in Ireland. The idea behind the post code is that in the UK there are regional channels for BBCs and ITVs, like UTV up north and BBC Northern Ireland there is also many, many other regions in the UK and depending on what post code you enter in the box at setup, it will weight your region to the top of the EPG. So, the box will work no problems, its just up to you to decided which regional content you want, do you want BBC Nothern Ireland with news etc from there or maybe BBC London etc instead?

Doesn't matter that your in RoI, the box won't know this! Enter any valid postcode from England, Scotland, Wales or NI, and the box will store the appropriate BBC and ITV regional variation for that postcode.

Enter an English or Welsh postcode and you will get ITV1 HD at channel 119 in the Freesat EPG since April 2nd. However I still think ITV1HD is available via the red button on channel 977 (ITV1 London) should you want UTV or STV at channel 103.

Many thanks, I suppose I would like the NI versions ie BBC NI and UTV. I would like to Buy a HD box, I know there are not a lot of HD channels yet.

the post code will determine your ITV region.

the BBC's can be changed to whatever region you want.. no matter which post code you have entered

BBC HD, ITV1 HD and Luxe TV HD. Luxe TV is a holiday/tourism orientated station.

Yes. I have two of them (Foxsat - basic ones, not a PVR). Good box. No complaints so far!

    How do you do this?

EDIT: figured it out! Menu> Edit Channels > Edit Customisable Channels

You wont get ITV1HD on your EPG if you select the Ulster region.

I use the postcode for the House of Commons so I get London programmes. This suits me fine.

    I use BBC Belfast - BT1 8HQ.

I use the London postcode for two reasons.

Firstly you get ITVHD as a channel at 119.

Secondly, I never realised how many shows get pushed around the schedule by BBCNI scheduling of local programmes.

If you want to access UTV or BBCNI, they are there (via non-freesat and freesat modes respectively). Since I got my dish, I have never done so!

    w12 7rj

always use the bbc london address as a film could be on bbc ni at 1130pm but on bbc london at 10.35pm etc

BT11AA is easier to remember for Belfast :)

For post code, I use SW1 1AA, which works as it is a legal post code, but I do not know where it is, except it is in London SW1, so gives ITV1, BBC 1 London, and ITV 1HD.

I have a foxsat hdr. I use a Devon postcode (DT47BP) as ITV West Country uses (or used to use) a higher resolution than other regions - hence better picture quality.

The only ways are Sky Digital, UPC and Digital Terrestrial. Sky and UPC require a minimum subscription. DTT is free assuming you have signal and compatible hardware. For more on that you should go to the Terrestrial board.

There may be someone from your area on the Terrestrial board who can tell you.

I'm in Bray, using a very basic indoor aerial close to a west facing window, perfect picture from Three Rock. If you already have an outdoor aerial you should have no problem.

Great to hear someone in the Bray area.
I am thinking of an outdoor aerial, I live in Wolfe Tone Square.
Looking for a good installer who won't rip me off,
    any offers ?

I don't think a good installer would rip you off, a bad one might.:D

Any basic indoor aerial will work in Bray. The signal is very strong. I got a good signal on a bit of bent coathanger. Get a coax cable used to connect a TV to a wall outlet. Cut the end off and bare back the braid and centre conductor. Cut a coathanget so you have a long straight piece of wire. Bend it into a 7 inch loop shaped as a T, following the outide with a half inch gap, so it is 7 inches at the top of the T and 7 inches down. Connect the braid to one side and conductor to the other, use electrical tape to attach and insulate. Point it horizontal around until you get a signal, pointing towards 3Rock helps. Mine works under the carpet.

I am trying to get Wales DTT and have had some success in Bray, and will try again this week.
