You're probably sick of this question but if bought an iPhone from abroad or from one of those chinese places in town, can I just stick my sim card in? will it work ok?

thanks in advance and sorry for bothering you.

It will work, but not without a few extra steps. The iPhone will need to be ''unlocked'' - not physically, but it will need to run some software to open it up to any network. Putting (say) a Meteor sim card in straight away would just be rejected by the iPhone. Google 'iPhone unlocking' and you'll find a million tutorials.
