    Just news google news "kildare rape" and the link above is the only one returned.

    Why that is the case is a fair question, RTE and the IT probably think its too "controversial" to report right now (after the killing of that Nigerian lad).

    The Independent story is merely a follow up from the front page of the Star the previous day. IIRC, the Mail lifted it as well.

    I think this story here & the absence of media coverage given to it and compared to the beatification and wall to wall coverage given to the tyrrelstown stabbing paint a disturbing picture of the level of competence and professionalism of Irish media.

    There is a gap emerging between the media and the public which wasn't there previously. More and more people I have spoken to don't trust the media - they have heard the unpublished information going around about the tyrrelstown stabbing and are wondering why no media mention is made of this - not to mention the fact that one of the accused had a smashed face and broken arm which no one in the media saw fit to comment upon.

    The levels of trust the public have for the media in general are decreasing rapidly in my view.
