    Hi guys,

bit embarrassing for me to ask this as I used to know all the cards inside out, but I need a PCI sound card to replace my failing Audigy 2 SB0240.. I use it for LMMS and Cubasis, and audio recording through audacity.. I usually buy Creative but I find their website very confusing and very hard to find out which cards are for musicians, and will run with soundfonts..

Anybody any suggestions on a good budget card to replace my current one.

    thanks.

    price range?

Is there a reason you won't consider a firewire soundcard??

Ah, thought they were just SB stuff and not still a current thing (only seen SF stuff many moons ago)

Ahhhh... I couldn't figure out why you'd want to do that...

So anyone interested knows, lots of samplers and romplers will play back soundfont files... And, so you know, while soundfonts will never be hugely awesome you can still get (and but even) hugely nicer soundfonts than the crap that used to exist.

Don't ask how I know this.

    :P

Talking budget here. Less than 100 euro second hand if possible

Is not having a firewire port a good enough reason.. LOL.. ;)

Yeah, I know about VSTs and all that but I need to put together back tracks very quickly from MIDIs, and transfer between a couple of computers. I use and app call "Fast MIDI to MP3" which really quickly allows me to convert MIDIs to MP3s (suprisingly.. lol) ... The SGM and UGM soundfont banks are free and very good quality.

Guy on gumtree selling this for 40 euro.

Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum
Seems to good to be true.

oh and by the way lads, I'm not averse to trying a different way if it makes it easier.. But am currently keeping the stuff in MIDI and converting to MP3 as I can take advantage of the improving MIDI sounds on instruments and software.

    Totally bizarre!

I can't even guess who is paying for this or why, but good job on making some money doing that!

Grab that audigy; it'll totally suit your purposes..

    ;)

Yeah, I've emailed the guy, but I'm a bit worried that he's not for real.. Only has the creative photo and creative description.. think it may be a hoax. I would love to get my hands on that external bay with the 1/4 inch inputs.. would make life so much easier for recording my own stuff.

This is the beauty of all the FireWire soundcards. All of them have proper INS and outs... Well most all.
