Allowing Cheques made out to business name

    Hi,

I have just registered a business name, i will be acccepting checks for an online service and i am not sure how to go about this.

Lets say the name registered is Index Ireland. I want customers to be able to make cheques payable to Index Ireland instead of my personal name.

I see many packages on bank websites for expensive business packages. I just want a simple bank account to accept cheques through the business name as i will not be making much money.

    Thanks for any input

You should be able to set up a bank account in the name of the registered business.

Just bring the certificate with you when setting up the bank account.

You can get the name added to an existing bank account. At least this is my experience, with ltd companies with trading names.

It will be marked on your account at the bank that you have 'Index' as your registered business name. The bank will require proof before doing this.

A basic bank account without all the online add-ons should not cost much.

You can register an account "trading as". So you can get Joe Bloggs t/a index and then can lodge cheques made pyable to either your own name or the business to that account. You can get a lodgement book to go with it which makes it very easy to lodge money when you pop in to the bank and keep record of cheques etc.
