Hey guys im in a bit of a situation (by no means a bad one) regards to a new job. I only this week signed a contract with IKEA for 16 hours a week which is permanent part time. Im going back to college in September which they can cater for so that suits me down to the ground.

My problem is that iv been asked to go for an interview with o2 which is a 20 hour contract. I know its only an interview but iv worked with mobile tech before in 3 so i feel ill have a decent chance. The thing is its a contract till the end of July with the "possibility" of been offered a permanent contract.

Kinda seems like a no brainer when you look at the two situations, but the thing i like about o2 is thats its commission based sales so there's a good chance of making a good bit more money which would be great during college. Its just the uncertainty thats the problem i know its not exactly the climate to be gambling with this sort of thing.

Any help or views would be good. Cheers

Edit: Also both jobs are past the toll. IKEA has free parking aswell the lunches and dinners are very very cheap. Does Blanch have free parking? or even a staff parking scheme?

Your choice only really, are you prepared to risk having no job for the chance of getting the o2 job?

But if it's commission only then there's a chance of making little to no money.
You would have to wonder about how much would people be buying new mobile phone contracts (or whatever you'd be selling).

Coupled with the fact that it may not be permanent or may not be accommodating to your college hours, I think you would have to take the Ikea job.

I dont think i am. It just doesnt seem logical and i could be left with nothing three months from now. Iv an interview on Wednesday and the girl i was talking to on the phone said to attend and just be straight up with them. I dont think they are going to give me any definite answers in the interview though

Presume o2 is 20 hours when permanent too to fit around your college needs and that the time in which those hours are worked suits you.

    If so...

At the moment you have no offer from o2 - go for the interview, get the job, make sure at interview it is what you expect and only then do you have a decision to make.

Accept the job at IKEA in the meantime - if/when you are offered by o2 resign from IKEA or walk away (after such a short employment you will have at most a 1 week notice) - just tell them that the role is not for you or something similar - sure it happens all the time.

Until you have the o2 offer of employment you do not have a choice to make - keep that in mind before you do anything rash.

Id still get an hourly wage as normal its just there is commission paid when you sell a certain amount of contracts and whatnot.

It means its better to be happy with what you have (the ikea job) then risk losing it.

I know few people who did 6 month contracts in o2 now there unemployed.
I know a few who were called back for christmas now there unemployed again.
O2 in the good days most people started on contract they would weed out the people they didn't want + all the 'good' agents got permanent jobs.
Now the recession is alive + well, seems the just keep hiring on contract. (nothing against o2)
I would stay in Ikea 110%

It means, it's better to have one thing for definite, than the possibility of having something else that might never happen.
