On DTT just noticed that RTE1 is being broadcast with 2 bars down either side instead of 16:9, is this just temporary??

On DTT, RTE1 & RTE2 have been broadcasted as 4:3 for a very long time. Some receivers and TVs are smart enough to translate this into wide-screen.

No they have been in 16:9 and revert to 4:3 when needed.

I haven't seen RTE1/2 being broadcasted in 16:9 - always 4:3. However, my TV and one of my receivers have always upscaled the picture into Full-HD resolution ... The other receiver doesn't scale RTE1/2 into Full-HD resolution (despite having a 1080i output)

Up to recently (maybe a month or 6 weeks ago) all programmes on DTT were broadcast in widescreen (even the 4:3 ones). RTE 2 are certainly flagging 16:9 and 4:3 programmes correctly at the moment. RTE 1 seem to be flagging 4:3 programmes ok, but certainly on my installation of DVBviewer the 16:9 programmes display correctly in widescreen but the 16:9 icon on the info bar is absent. RTENL are almost there with the flagging, but not quite yet!

My DTT tv showed RTE1 And RTE2 in true widescreen for the last year. Then about two weeks ago they changed to 4x3 and now I have a stretched version of the two channels. The guys are right.
