Looks like Jimmy Wales wants to step up and ask on JJ on behalf of the rest of the internet to make more LOST.

    http://www.tvovermind.com/lost/wikipedia-founder-to-petition-j-j-abrams-for-more-lost/21548

Not sure this is the best of ideas, if things are tidied up nicely for the finale, then I don't know how more episodes can be a good thing (they might have to put them elsewhere in the timeline or something).

Anyway, even if he gets a bazillion names on the petition, who's to say JJ will want to make any more.

    What do ye reckon?

i was quite surprised they didnt take it to what i saw as a locigal, and commercially whorish conclusion which was end the whole tv side of things with a cliffhanger, and roll out a movie 6 months later which tied everything up

Id sign it regardless. Whats the worst that could happen they either make more or they dont. I'd say if they did make more it would be with different characters in a different time line. A la star trek.

I'd sign it too. Lost isn't going to end at the finale. It's been too big a phenomenon. It's like The X Files which came back. There's talk that Buffy is coming back but without Joss Whedon I think? They will find some way to keep it going so let's just have the creators on board with it.

I'd like to see a spin-off involving the island in a different era. Maybe far off in the past or future. Even if it was a disaster I would still be able to distinguish it from the present show and it wouldn't tarnish my view of the current programme. Something like Lost: Next Generation or Lost: Chronicles or something. :)

I think the writers have a real talent for making characters that people care about so I just hope they do something.

No more please. The writers seem to have barely enough core story to fill 6 seasons, let alone more. This season has been the worst in my opinion.

He's asking the wrong man for one thing and the writers have conclusively said they want no part in anything after the finale

Yeah, JJ Abrams isn't involved in it anymore.

I wouldn't sign it though. Let's face it, before the end of the third season the writers agreed with the studio to only do 3 more seasons. There was a reason for this. And once that was decided, the writers wrote the next few seasons with that end date in mind, and for everything (or almost everything) to be wrapped up by then, to all come to this final conclusion. What will another season after that entail? Finally get to see what happened to Annie? All the surviving Losties meeting up and going to a Geronimo Jackson concert?

While it may be a money-maker for ABC, that'll decrease the longer Lost gets dragged out for. Look at 24. The last few seasons have been pretty poor as they string it out. I really like Lost, and I think the worst thing would be to string it out any longer. Even with a movie. The tv finale should be the big conclusion. A film after that would be utterly pointless, and seeing as how it hasn't been announced by now and I believe they're already shooting the finale, there is no point in anything else.

Plus, even though it has made big bucks for the studio, so will anything that has "From the makers of Lost..." attached to it. Let them move onto something new and start again

I suspect Damon and Carlton will put the proverbial nail in the coffin in the finale in order to make it very hard for Disney/ABC to revive the show in any form.

I'm gonna miss the show and all, but at the same time I'm glad it's finishing.

Pretty much this. When it's over, I'll watch through all the seasons again, then move onto something new

I think it's gone on too long already. The first series was great, about 60% of the second series was good, the third series had a few good episodes and it's been downhill from there. It really needs to be wrapped up. Once it's finished it should stay finished. If it was going to go on indefinitely I would have stopped watching ages ago.

I see a few comments here about re-making Lost with different characters. Anyone that wants that should just watch Fringe. It's not set on an island but it has a similar feel. I wouldn't be surprised if it somehow ties in with Lost. It even has (I'll use the spoiler tag in case anyone has yet to watch it)
    an alternative dimension storyline
    .

All good things come to an end. Six seasons is plenty.

They'll find a way to make spin-off's, even Darlton have admitted this. They just won't have anything to do with them. Personally, I think 10 years down the line a Lost spin-off could be great.

I doubt they'll wait 10 years to relaunch. I'll give it 5 at the most. Carlton and co have said they won't have anything to do with it, thats easily said now while they have a hit show, lets see what happens when they have to start all over again

You wouldnt ask Cleese to do more Faulty Towers or Matthews/Lineham to write more Father Ted.

They planned to end this show 2 seasons ago and we all moan about american tv ruining shows by dragging them out until the numbers fall off the map. Lost are doing the right thing.

Enough is enough. Its flogging a dead horse to stretch season any further. Writers have had plenty of time to tie loose ends and all that will happen is more questions will be raised. To all intents and purposes the Season finale will be the season finale for me. Would be very unhappy if it went any further after that

    No.More.Lost....Season 6 of course. :)

Seriously... if we get a "to be continued" thing at the end of season 6 then I won't be watching it anymore.

It's been great and all, and I love it but enough is enough.

    Lost: The Dharma Years :)

There shouldn't be any more but it wouldn't surprise me if there is.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,082 ✭✭✭✭Spiritoftheseventies

Im quite sure some attempt will be made to extend the series in some form or other. Im not interested.

Like SP said I expect Darlton to make it next to impossible for anyone to continue on the story from whenever it ends.
I don't think a show set at any other time would be particularly interesting so the only way I really see it is if they "re-imagine" it and take the concept of a plane crash on a special magical island and go from there.

As I said before, I regard Lost as Lindelof's show, without him it it's not Lost.

I love lost and all but let it come to an end......... Generally i'd be slightly pissed at the end of a good show but its entirely different with Lost; let it reach its honourable end.:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,339 ✭✭✭me-skywalker

They will end this in no doubts as these characters will have completed their arc.

A separate new series with LOST tags will have new characters and new stories to tell. using the same idea of crazy psuedo-scifi psuedo religion with characters vying for power.

Someone mentioned LOST: The Dharma Years jokingly... I have to say I wouldn't mind that.

That was season 5 and it was fairly uninspiring for the most part until the end.

There's a lot of DHARMA that was never explained. A spin-off series focusing on its origin, and the pseudo-science would be great.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,061 ✭✭✭leggo

Exactly. I don't think ANYONE (fans, producers, cast or the like) is suggesting that they continue THIS story any further.

But take Star Trek for example: I'm sure the die-hards back then thought it was a HORRIBLE idea to ruin the legacy of Kirk, Spock etc. If someone hadn't thought of a way to twist it, though, the Trekkies would've been denied admirable spin-offs in The Next Generation, Voyager etc.

All it takes is a twist of the original concept. The mythology of the 'island' is MORE than enough to build a franchise around. Just create some compelling new characters, a fresh, interesting arc and you're away.

I know that right NOW...when we're just a few hours away from the finale and still clueless...it's tough to imagine yourself diving right back into another saga. But give it 5-10 years and I think we'd all be more than receptive to the idea.

All that I hope is that wannabe screenwriters don't get to work on a sequel as soon as the finale ends, the network rushes it through to fill the void and we end up getting some appalling mess that gets quickly shafted to the wee hours of the morning and forgotten about after a couple of seasons (See: Joey).

If done for the right reasons, it could be done very well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 687 ✭✭✭Jay Ru

The right reasons? The only reason anything is ever done in the land of tv and movie is MONEY. Shows only get green lite if the tv companies can make money off them and they get canceled when they don't make money. There's people on here that think the producers of Lost are godly like figures who won't dream of tarnishing Lost, if said it before and i'll say it again, Carlton and co find it easy now to say lost is finished an they've no intentions to return to it because there riding high on the success of the show, lets see what happens in a few years after maybe a failed pilot or 2, ask them then about returning to Lost. It boils down to money, the producers of Lost continue to make money they'll prob not return but if the struggle u can bet that they'll consider it.

If lost is continued is some way or another i really hope they drop Mathew Fox and Evangaline Lilly especially if its gonna be in the form a movie. After Vantage point i vowed never to watch Fox in another movie, and Lilly has the acting chops of the cgi polar that Locke burned while rescuing Ecko in series 3
