I posted a while back that I had a severe phobia of Dentists...SEVERE!!!!

Just had my 2nd appointment today , and had a wisdom tooth taken out , 2 fillings and a deep clean in one sitting.... I FELT NOTHING!!! ... In fact , I actually enjoyed it... ( weird I know )

I feel great now after over coming a serious fear...... So please , for anyone out there , that is in pain for ages , or embarrassed about their teeth...DONT SUFFER....Make the appointment , find the right Dentist for you , and you will find that the reality of the treatment is NOTHING near as bad as you have it your mind....

PS I was not put asleep during this...AND FELT NOTHING , apart from the needles ,which were really not sore ..

Thank you very much for this post :)

I have an appointment tomorrow, first dental appointment in years (I mean years, perhaps 15). I have a molar with a big cavity that gives pain every now and then, I made the appointment about 10 days ago when in absolute agony. Lady on the phone was very nice and assured me the dentist was not an animal (I asked specifically). Anyway I'm basically dreading it but I reckon this tooth needs to come out. Also there is a wisdom tooth behind it that the dentist may have ideas about, the wisdom tooth is probably the main reason I haven't gotten the cavity sorted years back to he honest, I wanted the wisdom tooth to be up, all part of the avoide the dentist lifestyle I suppose :o

So thank you so so much for this post :)

That's really helpful. Please don't post like that again. Cynicism, really. I would agree with you if the person mentioned a specific dentist, but this wasn't a shill.

    Appointment went well :)

Very nice chap, bit of chit chat, recounted my dental history (none with the adult teeth so that was brief enough), told how I first got pain in the tooth about 5 years ago and how I was reluctant to get it looked at as I had wisdom teeth breaking through at the time. He had a quick look and took some x rays and photos. Then suggested that he give me an anesthetic for the troublesome tooth while he had a further look at the rest. Injection was almost painless but I still felt a bit faint (I'm just like that), he reclined the seat further and when the colour returned to my cheeks he continued. He informed me that my two bottom wisdom teeth were fine and that the top two wouldn't appear for years yet if at all, also he said I needed 3 small fillings and the tooth I went to him about was a candidate for root canal or for extraction. He then suggested that he clean and dress it with a temporary filling and then I come back in a few weeks. Which he did and I felt nothing at all, I'm not overly fond of instruments and whatnot in my mouth but it was painless and ok. After a mouthwash to remove any bits he gave me some Coke to get the sugar levels up. Also discussed the pros and cons of extraction v root canal, some food for thought. As well as that and the 3 small fillings he recommended a clean as there is plaque and tarter on the inside of the bottom teeth. All in all I'm delighted to have gone and am looking forward to getting them sorted. As I don't like being on the chair I am leaning towards extraction but I'll have a think about it over the next few weeks. The fillings are first on the agenda I think before he deals with the main issue.

Very positive overall, strolled home afterwards (only 50 yards) and feel fine, the temporary filling feels weird but there was a large hole there for the last couple of years.

I must agree with the OP, make that dental appointment folks :)

Only thing i hate about the dentists is the injections or getting x-rays!

I love seeing the x-ray of my teeth though:pac:

    another visit today

a filling , deep clean and last tooth removed...

Tbh , this morning was the only time I felt any "uncomfort" as I had 5 injections... But the filling , cleaning and extraction was PAINLESS

I have really over come my fear now , and I am delighted.

As for the poster who said Im a dentist...<snip - if I didn't I'd have to give you an infraction, thems the rules>..

    All the best

Ok, just back from the dentist and boy do i feel like a fool! I burst into tears the minute i sat in the chair and he was really good with me. He spent about 1 minute looking and said your teeth are really strong! The relief. He then spent about 15 mins going through everything and making sure everything was ok. Then he spent 20 mins cleaning my teeth which was gross but the results are astounding! My teeth are milk white, whiter than i ever remember them. All i need done is a tiny filling. Im delighted with this. Thanks everyone for listening to me moan and i am now an official fan of the dentist.

Because they were filthy and looked awful. They look like new teeth now, its like I got veneers.

If my wisdom teeth come up they may have to come out but not to worry till I have some pain. Isn't it cool looking at the X Ray of your head?
