recently got back results of annual herd test which also tested for ibr and bvd courtesy of pharm company.Test results show 49% and 85%positive for ibr and bvd respectively. My question is,where to from here?.Do I vaccinate or what?.Have no major health issues in herd (sucklers)at the moment.Any ideas most welcome.

Here, have a read of this.
    http://www.independent.ie/farming/beef/step-up-your-methods-to-help-eradicate-bvd-from-the-herd-2107532.html

For what it's worth, BVD is endemic here. My vet told me it is in over 90% of the herds.
My own opinion is there should be a national programme to eradicate it. What's the point of you getting rid of it, when the guy next door propably has it too. Buy cattle in from the mart, you're bound to bring it back in.

    I had similar results.

Vacinated for Both and a boaster shot in the first year also for BVD.
Going to vacinate all breeding stock bought in and continue with vacinating once a year

you can get tags from a company call enfer diagnostics which whep applied to the animals ear take a sample that you send off for analysis.
    http://www.enferdiagnostics.com/index.html
i think the test costs roughly 5 euros per animal including the tag.
the only way to completely get rid of bvb is to blood test the whole herd and find the persistently infected animals and cull them as vaccinating will not solve the problem.
the enfer tags look like a good idea to apply to newly born calves to check for the disease.
i dont know about testing for ibr but i think it isnt as common as bvd and doesnt cause as much health problems in the herd.

Your local vet will take bloodsamples and send them away for analysis

How much are people paying for bvd vaccinations and where are you buying them? Are they gone on prescription?? I have tried a few places that used to sell them, but they don't have them any more.
