my parents are looking to go on a sun holiday in may. they are sick of the canaries and want somewhere different. does anyone have any suggestions?

they are both in around the 60years old mark so they just want nice warm weather, nice resort thats not to noisy or busy but has plenty of restaurants and especially shops. my mother loves her shops!!

they were thinking maybe majorca or crete?

Parents liked Rhodes. See http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055806418 for more info. Dunno if there were many shops, but lots of restaurants.

Would they be prepared to travel independently or do they prefer package?
I would suggest Port Soller in Mallorca if they were prepared to travel independently!
There are plenty of apartments to rent on these sites and Aer Lingus fly to Palma. It's a georgous spot and would be completely different to the Canaries. Very Green:D

It's connected to Palma by an old train which is an extremely popular trip to take and you can also catch a tram to the town of Soller closeby!
The shopping in Palma is pretty good :)
Palma is also connected by buses so shopping would not be a problem as well as the pretty shops in Soller itself.

If they would prefer a package deal then perhaps some others can suggest resorts but the North WEst of Mallorca is stunning!

My parents are also in their 60s and travel to Kotor in Montenegro regularly. It's a UNESCO world heritage site. Absolutely beautiful place. I've been there myself. The only thing is that they will need to be willing to drive. From Dublin, you fly to Dubrovnik and it's an hour's drive from there. Absolutely worth it though
