I'm felting a roof for a friend tomorrow. I have some experience of this having done it before.

The specific question that I have is how to create a proper seal unto an upright stippled wall?

Any advice on this appreciated, thank you.

    1. drill and fix a timber guide into the wall first . ( 50 x 75 sw timber )
    2. use the guide to steady a disc grinder to cut through the render into the block
    3. remove the timber guide and hack off the render below the cut line
    4. bitumen prime the now exposed block
5 .bond the felt up-stand to the primed block
    6. tuck and wedge a lead flashing into the cut you made at step 2
    7. silicone seal between the the top of the lead flashing and the underside of the cut render edge

    Well put Sinnerboy,

also remember silicone sealer will not stick to lead until the lead has oxidised. To help this process paint the lead flashing with patination oil, at least two coats.
