    From what I understand from talking to people involved, this has more to do with internal conflict than anything else.

    i.e. union members are extremely pissed off at the way they have been treated by the union leaders and want to make a point of it, rather than any particular disagreement with the deal. If the union leaders had come back and put the negotiations before their members, they probably wouldn't even be in this position now.
