could be water stuck in the door seal.might be something blocking the little drain holes at front of seal.

Its not a problem have you changed the filter recently. It might be this.. If its not check that your washing machine is connected to the applience trap corrrectly..

Try and not close the door tight on the machine, to allow it to air and dry out.

Also, the problem can be more apparent if you regularly use low temp wash cycles or non-bio washing powder/tabs

It's recommended that every once in a while, you run a full temperature wash with no clothes in it (with some bio powder), in order to clean out any gunk in the machine.

I second this. I only discovered it when having to purchase a new machine after my 'eco friendly' washing habits.

You learn something every day. Thanks for the tip.

I must do that this weekend - machine almost 2 years old! :)

Here's an article that explains it in further detail.

It's a growth of bacteria in the machine due to low-water levels / short washes and low temperatures.

    This fixes everything:

Put 160ml (about half a bottle) of clear or scented Dettol into the drum of the machine. DO NOT use the 'traditional' brown Dettol as it will take months to wash the smell of it out!

Select the 90C wash cycle and the prewash option and any high-water level / aqua plus / water plus options that your machine might have.

Add a good dose of normal washing powder to the mainwash section of the drawer.

    Run cycle.

This should disinfect your machine and clean the gunk out.

If you're in a hardwater area, you can also buy washing machine descaler in Tesco and other supermarkets. Follow the instructions and run it through the machine once every few months.

    It makes a big difference!

We used to get this whiffy washing machine problem from time to time, but have found that if you just do a hot (90C) towel wash once in a while, it never happens.
