Endodentists Limerick-Clare area

    Hi folks,

Just discovered that I need some major work done fairly quickly.

I had a referral from my own dentist to another dentist for extreme pain and discovered that I have both TMJ and decay under a filling.

The second dentist wants to kill the nerve and then do some intensive root canal work. However, (a) he is not the person that my dentist usually refers people to for endodenthic work and (b) I don't think he actually is a specialist endodentist.

Reading here it would seem that a specialist endodentist is best. Can my ordinary dentist kill the root (to kill the excruciating pain I'm in)?

And could anyone please direct me to a list of endodentists in the Limerick Clare area or give me a recommendation please.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi there

Yes any dentist can kill the pain to start but if the root canal treatment is very difficult you may need to see an endodontist. You mentioned that you had decay and TMJ under a filling, I am not too sure what you mean by TMJ as it usually stands for Temperomandibular Joint

If you are in doubt go back to your dentist and ask them what they would recommend and if they agree with the dentist you have been referred to. Otherwise check the IDA website, www.dentist.ie

Thank you everyone for your help.

Just to clarify. The pain initially was general rather than specific and manifested itself or masqueraded as TMJ pain. It was only as time went on that the pain started to localise around the specific tooth.

I've had TMJ symptoms on and off for the last few years and wear a mouth guard, and it was assumed by both the location of the pain, the nature of the pain, my past history and also the fact that the pain began when I was going through a period of intense stress, that the pain was indeed caused by an exacerbation of the TMJ situation.

I appreciate your help and hope to make some progress this week.
