Whats the craic with Monets Garden at 9/1 in the Melling Chase. Off since Feburary and excellent record at the track and had the beating of the Ryanair winner last time. I'm going in on this one!

Ground would have been a bit softer than Alberta's Run would have liked but the horse does like Aintree

Kalahari King must have a chance. Has form over this trip and a placing in the champion chase

Forpady has been beaten every time he's tried this trip so I'll take him on, although horses placed in the Champion have a tremendous record

Alberta's Run had a hard race from the front in the Ryanair and ran flat here in 2008 after winning the RSA. I'll pass over him for that reason.

I have had a small each way on Deep Purple here. Has some decent form over 2m 4f+ and looks a flat track horse. Ran well in the Ryanair and maybe just didn't get up the hill. Was well punted in both the King George (couldn't actually believe the sustained gamble on him this day) & the Ryanair. Ladbrokes paying 1/4 the odds too.

Btw how is Menorah unpenalised in a Grade 2 hurdle tomorrow?

Interestingly there is a 'Paddock Watch' section from Cheltenham in the Weaterby's Aintree/Punchestown guide. Says a lot of Hobbs' horses were trained to the last at Cheltenham so they mightn't improve and may do well to retain their form.

FWIW Nick Modin 'won'r hear of defeat' for Escort'men. Seeing as Menorah was one of his Cheltenham horses it's a significant opinion from him

without a shadow of a doubt, my NAP of day two....loves aintree, big time spring horse, and he'll adore the ground.

I hope your right. I had a nibble at him after my post. I was holding fire until I read some more news on the other horses. 7s from 9s now. Not sure if it's as inviting as it was earlier

I think Chamirey in the 4.20 is far too big at 14/1. 3/1 for a place looks tasty aswell.

    2.00 Washington Irving
Good ground and 2 miles will see the best of him @ 25/1 and 1/4 odds at Lads. Trainers horses have been running well and I reckon he thinks this horse can be competitive. Needs to get jumping right though

    2.35 Ogee
Reckon he'll like the good ground better than other fancied horses and probably has more speed to take advantage.

    3.10 Monets Garden
Record around Aintree is impossible to ignore. Getting on but as good as ever beating Albertas Run at Ascot. The dryer it is, the closer Albertas Run ought to be.

    3.45 Frankie Figg
Winning form round Aintree. ought to appreciate the ground and potentially well handicapped. Also like Battlecry.

    4.20 Lord Generous
Backed him at Aintree hoping the ground would be better and will do so again today confident of better ground and the extra 3 1/2furlongs. Henderson is 10 from 27 the last 2 weeks.

    4.55 Bob n' You
Didn't look too long at this one. Following the stats here. 1/1 Course, 2/6 Going, 2/4 Distance

    5.30 Style of Campile
Not much interest in bumpers, this one.

Are talking betfair prices? He's 12s with the bookies. Lord Generous had the beating of him on good ground at the distance. Only just mind

Definitely having a bet on Monets Garden today... only horse in the race not to run at Cheltentham and good record around here! Has to have a great chance!!!

It's true he's been beat at the distance every time but has never tried the trip on good ground and was 2 1/2l behind Cooldine a month before he went out and blitzed the Ryanair field last year. I couldn't have him because his price is too short...the competition is justtoo great to be backing anyone at 4/1

    I don't see why there isn't a Grade 1 at 2m at Aintree (non-novices)

Now that is interesting. Not only was Menorah one of his Cheltenham horses, in his post Cheltenham review in the Field he talked him up as one who could win more G1 hurdles.

i've backed 2 today again, 3.10 forpadytheplasterer, i think davy russell will suit it, and 3.45 offshore account, ran a cracker at cheltenham and over these fences last year til stamina gave out, i hope for better luck after nedzers return who was still creaping into it again when unseating, and chapoturgeon yesterday

No there were several at 14/1 when I posted it.
I'd fancy him to reverse it,he was only beaten 1 and 3 quarters of a length and he has come on better since, running well in a handicap there at cheltenham.

If yesterday is anything to go by today is a day for laying the favs.

The winners from Cheltenham are all there to be opposed imho.

Have backed Magic Sky each way in the Topham at 33/1, trainer had a winner yesterday so could make the top 5

The Melling was a brilliant race. Shame about Schindlers Hunt. Forpadytheplasterer gives a reliable second best performance. Monets Garden looks like he's met the top of the hill today. Albertas Run responds to McCoy so well and is clearly a class anmal and now has back-to-back Grade 1's to prove it. No doubts about it now

He has been very good to me, especially with placing at decent odds. One of my favourite horses. I was sick I didn't have him at Cheltenham.

Carnage for fav backers today and can't see either of the last 2 skating in either. Layers paradise!

    Just looking at the replays

Burton Port is one tough little horse. Wasn't backing him today after the hard run he had at Cheltenham but ground out a win today and the further he went the better he looked. Must say I'd my eye on next year's Hennessy but I think he may have ruined his handicap mark!

thank god for McCoy and ringaroses in the 2nd last, i was cursing him after beating forpadytheplasterer but i was cheering home on my own in the bookies, always good when that happens :D
