iPhone broken and stuck on 18 month contract

    Hi all,

Looking for some help regarding the iPhone. My sister recently purchased an iPhone 3G 8GB from an O2 shop. She signed up to a 18 month contract.

Unfortunately she did not sign up for insurance and a week later got the phone wet, now has extensive water damage and non responsive. I have tried everything to get it working again but no luck.

So now, the phone is no more and she is stuck in an 18 month contract. I visited the O2 shop and explained her case but they could not help, only to fork out €420 to purchase a new iPhone.

So wondering if there is anyone out there with some ideas as to how to sort this issue or any advice? Really like to get a new iphone for her or some work around. Any advice?

Check your house insurance, it might be covered.

Aside from buying a new phone, she has no real options here. O2 won't release the contract and won't allow her upgrade for 12 months.

All you can do is either buy a new phone from O2 or try and source one on adverts.ie/ebay. No other option really, taking any contract without insurance is a bad idea.

ring apple in cork (dont have the number) but I know this has happened to some people.

Send it back and if u pay 200 off euro u will get a refurbished one.

Best of a bad situation i reckon but I have heard of Apple doing this

The above poster is right. When I sent my iPhone for warranty work, I got a replacement. With it came a leaflet that stated if the damage was not covered under warranty, Apple will send you a replacement iPhone for €212 or a figure close to it.
