    Hi

    Need Help....

I am looking to do the Part-time Dential Nurse Course but I need to have chair side assistance to gain entry

Does anyone know where I can get paid work experience????

I am aware of getting unpaid :( experience in the Dental School in Cork but I would like to leave that as a last resource

I'd recommend trying the Dental Issues forum or the Health Sciences forum.

Good luck with whatever you end up doing :)

    Hi Peppi21,

At the moment the dental profession is having serious cutbacks introduced by our government. Alot of them are reducing staff and there is also talks of medical card dental scheme being withdrawn from private practices so it will get worse over coming months. It definately isn't a career to be heading into. No such thing as overtime even though you can often be delayed at lunch or in the evening and Holidays often have to be taken when dentist is golfing or skiing or when his kids are on midterm!!!! You meet lots of people every day but it can be a very lonely place to work socially unless you end up securing a job with HSE which is next to impossible at the moment. My advice would be to see if there is another field you could work in. However, the course is really interesting

    Hi Peppi21,

The decision on the cut backs to the medical card scheme has yet decided but dentists will still need nurses so jobs will still be available. Usually they don't mind if someone new hasn't experience because they can train them to work their particular way. Keep an eye on Cork Examiner, there is often dental nurse jobs advertised on that. Or if you have a free afternoon, take out the yellow pages and go through and just ring around, mention that you are keen to do the course and to train as a dental nurse, you would be surprised doing it that way is often the best because the dental practice may be aware that someone is leaving or going on mat leave etc but have yet to advertise and someone ringing them showing interest could just saving them all the bother of having to look, or they may know of a practice where a position is going to be available. Best of luck

    Jewell
